How things have changed in 12 years

Ok so techinically I have only been pregnant for about 5 minutes. But, couldn't help looking around at baby gear. My last pregnancy was 13 years ago and wow have times changed even in that short time. Here is a list of random thoughts.

1. Umm whats with all the highchairs with cloth covers? Is that practical? I remember wiping mine down daily with lysol, and the bi-monthly power washing on the driveway. I damned well will search high and low for a vinyl seat. My sanity and future italian dinners will depend on it.

2. $180.00 for a crib bedding set??? Really? I have a queen sized bed and paid half that much. Am I a bad mom if I don't spend that? LOL

3. The vibrating bouncy seats...ouch! I had a snugli brand when it first came out, the vibrations could barely be felt but it did the job. I was playing with one yesterday that had the motor of an electric sander. Ummm, will have to look for a calmer seat I guess.

4. Why does BRU charge $5.00 for A BIB, when they have similar ones at the dollar store?

5. Where did the drop sides go? How am I supposed to change the sheets when the mattress is all the way down? Is Graco throwing in a free step stool or what?

Hah ha I am sure I will have a new list soon :)

Hey, congrats again!

1. lol.  mine is cloth too.  stuff wipes off it pretty easy though, we haven't gotten to the spaghetti and meatballs yet tho ;)

2. yea i know, silly isn't it.  I think Sage's was about 70 or 80.  And it's pretty cute, got it at kmart.  NO you are not a bad mom.  I cheap out on everything, and i do mean everything for our family.  I find there is usually no diff in quality.  And I always shop clearance!

3. the vibrations work REALLY well. lol. Sage likes them though.

4.  DUMB! so does target.  There are good deals at walmart, kmart ect.

5. LMAO they are "un safe" now. my matress is not all the way down yet but I usually pull the stupid mattress out of the crib!

I have to say, I LOL'd at every single one of those... and I don't even have kids yet. Seriously! I can't believe how much money they try to squeeze out of new parents on unnecessary crap. I have seen crib sheets/sets going for upwards of $500. INSANITY when they're just going to be pooped on and barfed on anyway!!!

1. mine is cloth and it goes easily into the washer when it's bad. They still make vinyl ones... you'll just have to search for them.

2. Look at Ikea. I ended up with a bumper from Ikea and some plain sheets.... and a few random blankets... whatever  he falls asleep under.

3. Those Vibrating seats made Tristan sneeze. So obviously we didn't use that function. :)

4. Walmart has pretty good deals on packs on bibs... BRU over charges for everything. Only window shop there!

5. We have a Graco crib with a drop down side that wasn't recalled but Tristan would push on it and it fell down... so we nailed it in place. To change the sheet pick up the ends of the mattress.

Baby gear is insane.

I spet $500 on Bella's bedding and about $400 on Carter's. Not to mentiont that I dropped about $2500 between 2 beds and all bedding at PBK.

I hope they use it everynight until they move! LOL!

Yep, I am definitely searching high and low for a vinyl highchair. Even if I have to ship it in on e-bay from Austraila. Another thing I learned with the first one is, don't scrimp on the stroller.  I had 5 (yes, 5) because I was always looking for one thet was bigger/smaller/sturdier/folded easier and as a result probably spent about $600 on them. This time I am going right for the fancy european brand that has all the features. I totally see how BRU milks the expectant parents. Probably the biggest thing they have going for them is the baby registries. I looked at T J Maxx and Marshalls, and they have bibs and sleepers, all the layette stuff for less than half of what BRU charges.
Anyone want to buy a 12 year old stroller? LOL I think they may still be in storage, all 5 of them!!.

I had Fisher Price Space Saver High Chairs for the twins. They still make them. You can find it at Target & BRU. It has a vinyl cover & only costs like $39/$49. I will definiteLy be purchasing one for this baby. I can't imagine a cloth cover on a high chair. It's just not practical.

I got the Fisher Price one that's the ocean wonders or something like that! It has toys attached to the tray and the cover wipes down easily! The harness removes for washing, too!

I got mine on eBay. It was like $50 for the entire set, including decorations for the walls! There are two main sellers who do complete 13-17 piece sets in tons of different designs! We got a moon and stars, my friend who was pregnant at the same time got a more art deco design, so they have all kinds to choose from for cheap!!!

We got tons of the multi packs (walmart has them really cheap) and just bypassed BRU on this one!

I totally know what you mean! I'm only 5'2" and I'm already dreading when we have to put the crib on the lower setting! It's already hard enough to reach him! LOL
