This will be my first child and I'm unsure as to what I absolutely need....what are some things you just couldn't live without after baby was born?

I really loved having gowns for the baby to wear. It made changing diapers much easier than changing his whole outfit, etc. He wore gowns pretty much exclusively for months LOL!

Lots of bottles! It takes a while to really get your bottles washed and you'll want to make sure they're really clean, so have lots of them so that you don't have to wash them as often! We have 10 for Kaleb.

Have tons of diapers on hand - and different kinds. If baby has a reaction to one kind or it leaks, you don't want to have to run to the store to get more - you just open another package! And get newborn AND size 1 - don't just stock up on newborn sizes! We used less than 1 bag of newborn diapers!

Even if you're going to breastfeed, I recommend having some formula on hand. Just in case. Kaleb couldn't sleep in the hospital because he was so hungry and my milk wasn't coming in. They had to give him some formula there and it was nice to already have some at the house as well.

Also, if you're formula feeding, if you're going to use bottled water to make the bottles, have lots of that around. Where I live it gets so hot and the water out here stinks horribly and they add a ton of chemicals to it in the summer just to bring the smell down. It's awful. You can't even get soda at restaurants out here without it tasting funky because they use the city water. So decide in advance if you'll want to use bottled water for bottles.

And don't forget a baby book like Baby 411 or what to expect, etc. Something that you can run to when you have a question and your brain is frazzled!

Good luck and congrats!!!

Get a nice, quality glider chair/ottoman set. You will spend hours a day in this thing. Don't just look at babies r us, the furniture stores have nice quality ones too.

Carseat/carriage system
Pack and play
Diaper bag
Bottles
Gowns- I love them!
Onsies- depending on the weather you will need short and long sleeve. It gets cold here but it is very hard to find long sleeve ones
Diapers- only open one bag at a time. You can return/exhange unopened bags at most stores.
Wipes-I buy them by the case. Its cheaper and you will go through a lot of them. I also use them to keep hands clean and wipe their mouths
Socks
Burp cloths-use the cloth diaper ones and have plenty of them
Swing-my Max loved it, Sydnee hates it
Blankets-makes sure they are big enough to swaddle
Bathing tub
Gas drops
Infant tylenol/motrin
Diaper cream
Lotion
Baby wash

I am sure there is more

Congrats! And below are the essentials I couldn't live without the first few months.

1. Bobby Pillow (I breastfed and it was a God send)
2. Breastpump (Medela Advanced Pump)
3. Dr. Browns (you need bottles, bottles, bottles and more bottles)
4. Wipes ( A LOT OF THEM)
5. Dr Boudreaux's BUTT PASTE
6. Aquaphor (Tyler tended to scratch himself a lot, so I tried to keep mittens on him, but this came in handy when I didn't have them on)
7. Swing (Fisher Price Baby Papasan - gave me LOADS of free hands and time to get chores done)
8. Pack N Play (He slept it that more than his own crib, but I'm trying a bassinet with this baby)
9. ONESIES (LOTS OF THEM) That's all Tyler wore around the house for the first 3 months. I wasn't one of those parents that put full-on outfits on my baby to just lay around the house. ONESIES are comfy for baby.
10. Receiving/Swaddling blankets
11. Travel System that you can you use to easily move baby from Carseat to stroller with ease.
12. Tub
13. Backup formula if breastfeeding doesn't workout
