gestational diabetes
Has anyone developed gestional diabetes during their pregnancy. I have to check my blood sugar in the am and it is below 100. but since the baby is getting bigger the higher my number is getting. it has not reached 100 yet but it is creeping--the dr said he might put me on meds til baby is born. My question is...the BS is getting high 2 hours after eating--they want it under 120-sometimes I get 132 or below 170 then 2 1/2 hours later it goes back to under 120--I am scared about taking the meds and it cause to low BS. I am just asking-has anybody gone through this or anything similiar.

OH YAH!!! My 1st pregnancy I ended up on insulin the last trimester..this pregnancy, since I am SO insulin resistant, I am just shy of 10 weeks and started insulin 3 days ago at night. My morning BS was around 95..they are strict and want under 90...my day ones so far are low, like 70ish. I do not think that the meds will make you too low and they typically put you on insulin, not medication sicne thats whats safe and works. But don't worry..you would rather not have a gigantic baby (which is what happens with consistant high BS's)!! Good luck and fell free to use me as a ? person!

I was diabetic on insulin before RNY and then was able to get off all inslulin after surgery. But, during pregnancy to make sure I had really tight control they wanted to put me back on some meds. I tried a pill first and that didn't go so well. Seems like since surgery I digest pills faster so the pill make my bs go low to quick. I was use to using insulin so I just opted for the insulin so I could feel like I had more control than taking a pill. I keep mine under 90 in the am and 120 after meals. If you need to try the pill first just keep you machine close and some protein like peanut butter to bring you sugar back up. If they pill doesn't work than you can use insulin.
At first it upset me to go on insulin again but I know I will be off of it quickly after having the baby. If you have any other questions just let me know

Thanks for the info. That was what I was afraid of my BS going to low being on the pills. My BS readings are below 100 in the am but creeping up there it seems. I was Type 2 with my last pregnancy and our daughter was stillborn at 39 weeks due to my BS being too high which caused her to go into cardiac arrest. I was taking 8 shots a day-and like you after gastric bypass no BS issues. So this is why it has really scared me. I will talk to my dr about the pills if it comes to that. thanks again Rebekah.
