4 years post op and 10 weeks pregnant
Hello, my name is Sonya and I had the gastric bypass 5/2006. I am currently pregnant after many years of thinking I could not conceive because of PCOS and other health issues. I am 10 weeks and found out today because of my age (34) and the procedure I will have to see a speciality. I was wondering if anyone here has had a child and can give me any advice on a healthy pregnancy from a post op prospective. I want to make sure that I am doing everything correctly. This will be my first child and I have lost over 150 lbs. I was 327 and am now 170 (of course with 10 lbs of baby weight gained so far). Please advise any help would be great.
Hey there! I'm also almost 4 years out and I'm 13 weeks preggo with my first child that the doctor's said was mostly impossible because of my PCOS- I'll be 29 in 24 days!! I can't offer much advice because I'm almost in the same boat, but I can say I hope you have a wonderful and joyful pregnancy! Congrats to you! :)
congratulations! I am 36 and pregnant for the first time. I have had a pretty normal pregnancy so far, some issues but nothing related to WlS, until now. I have extremely low iron and B12, which is kind of creating some minor issues. However, I have had iron issues even before my surgery, so who knows. Just make sure your doc checks your levels often, my OB was skeptic that they would change, so I went to my family doc and good thing.
Good luck!
Good luck!
Sonya, CONGRATS on the weightloss and also now the icing in the cake...You're going to be a mom!!!! I'm pregnant for the first time post Gastric Bypass, so not a veteran in this department yet. I have one child, but he was before surgery. I just wanted to stop by to say congrats and glad you shared your awesome news with us :) May you have an uneventful pregnancy :)
P.S. Just make sure you're taking all your necessary viatimins, as I take a Prenatal, a Multivitamin, calcium Citrate , B12 injections and an Iron pill. I feel like an old person will my pill box to keep up with all these pills..LOL. Outside of that ....good luck sweetie

Welcome Sonya. I had RNY in August of 2003 and conceived my son in February 2007. I also have PCOS and had to use a specialist but was able to conceive with meds only. We had tried for years on our own with no success. I saw my fertility specialiast until 12 weeks, than my regular OB after that. However, I also saw a perinatologist because they were worried if I would gain enough, etc.
I gained 29 lbs total, had my son at 37 weeks, and he was 6lbs 7 oz and today is a bery active almost 3 year old. I was also at goal before surgery, I was about 165 lbs and I am 5 ft 9. I do not know what your other health issues, if any are, but typically, the surgery itself does not make you high risk. There are some quirks such as the diabetes blood sugar test, but other than that, pretty standard pregnancy. Good Luck!

Sonya,
Just wanted to say congrats and welcome!!
I am 37. I had RNY August 2005. I was on birth control (Mirena IUD****il September 2009. I got pregnant Feb. 2010. I am 30 1/2 weeks pregnant now. Everything seems to be just as normal as someone that never had surgery.
Because of my age, they did some genetic blood testing at around 16 weeks. All was fine and normal then. I get my finger poked at each appointment for blood sugar, that's all been normal too.
Just thought I'd share. Feel free to ask any questions.
Best wishes to you and your little one!!
