Baby Congestion?
Okay...veteran moms, I have a question.
Does anyone have any good home rededies for congestion in a 5.5 month old? I am using the baby noses saline solution and the aspirator, but she is just so congested. I am also using the humidifier, but my poor baby girl is miserable. She doesn't have a fever. She is still taking her bottle, but this morning she really wants the water. At what age can babies take cold medicine?
Any advice will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Kim

There really isn't anything much you can give unless you talk to your pediatrician. You're doing all the right things. It can also be helpful to use a crib wedge when she is sleeping so she isn't laying so flat and things can drain better.
Banded 03/22/06 276/261/184 (highest/surgery/lowest)
Sleeved 07/11/2013 228/165 (surgery/current) (111lbs lost)

Kim my son who is now 3 was plagued with severe congestions most of his infancy. All you can continue doing is what you're doing right now and that's the saline and humidifier. I felt so sorry for my poor son as he attempted to breath through a very stuffy nose.
My doctor as he got older and I believe he was 1 allowed the occasional use of Children's benadryl, but was told not to use it too regularly. Until they're 2 and can use Zyrtec or Claritin Salin is pretty muc your friend. Just make sure to use the Warm Mist humidifier. As one Pharmicist explained to me the difference between the cool mist and warm...He stated you rather been in a cold damp cave if you're stuffy or a warm spa? I went with warm spa :) .
You can use the Baby Vicks, as I use to spread it on tylers chest and neck so he can smell the fumes and it at least opened his nasal passages a bit. Good luck sweetie and I hope she feels better.

Hey there ... First of all, sorry your nugget is so uncomfortable! That is never easy. Second, my baby was born with an issue that causes congestion because of a heart issue, and we put a wedge in her crib under her crib and that has really helpes, along with the use of a cool mist humidifier every night. We tried Vicks and other OTC remedies, but she was alergic to a lot of them. Hope its better soon!

I was told to put vicks on the bottoms of their feet then put on white socks and put them to bed. I haven't tried it for Amelia yet but I have an adult friend who does this to herself and swears by it. My Mom also suggested putting vicks on a tissue and put it under the sheet in the crib near baby's head.
Good luck!
Good luck!
Thanks for all of the advice and info ladies! Baby girl is alot better than she was a couple days ago. She still isn't drinking too much formula, but she will eat some cereal from a spoon and wants plenty of water. Hopefully, she will be back to normal soon.
Liz -- I tried the Vicks on the feet last night and it did seem like she wasn't as congested this morning.
Thanks again,
Kim
