Gallbladder out after surgery - weight gain?

Hi Ladies!
It has been a while since i have been here - having a VERY active 22 month old keeps me busy.

I was told on Friday I need my gallbladder out (surprise, surprise). I came home and did some research on line and I see A LOT of people who have theirs out and they have gained weight...not a few lbs but 20-40 lbs. This scares me to death... I have finally lost all my 'baby weight' and I would be beside myself if I put weight back on...

So my question is... have any of you had yours out after surgery? If so, did you gain? Lose? Any other issues after?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me... PM me if you don't want to put it here.

I went in early for my 6 month check up because of my gallbladder. I had it out  at 7 months. I continued to lose. The only thing that has really made me gain has been pregnancy. I was holding stead between 187 and 195 and then I got pregnant. Went up to 225 and never got that weight off. Good luck with getting it out.

Had mine out and it didn't affect me at all, except when I ate too many macadamia nuts on a trip to hawaii. Apparently something that full of fat will run right through you after GB surgery.

I gained around 10lbs but it's because i wasn't eating barley anything because everything gave me a GB attack.  So I did but felt 1000x's better!  Good luck

I did not gain from it at all. I had mine out when I was 28 weeks pregnant though. Still have to watch what you eat cause anything with fat really does go right through. My son just had his out in July and he did not gain anything either.

Hey,

I started having gall bladder issues at the end of my pregnancy, but didn't figure out what it was until several weeks later.  I thought that I was having some sort of contractions in my bac****il weeks after I had my baby, I started having "contractions" again.  I finally went to my Dr. and he determined that it was my gallbladder.  I am trying meds now, but I have a feeling that I will have to get my GB removed too.

I am curious about what symptoms everyone had or what was the determining factor that your GB needed to be removed.  I had not heard about weight gain from the GB removal, but I can not stand to gain any more weight.  I am still struggling with 20 lbs of baby weight.

Take care...

Hi there... I am the Queen of Google so after the doc said mine needed to come out I came home and did some research. The weight gain thing came up time and time again.

I had 2 attacks when I was pregnant and went to the ER and that is when I found out it was the GB. They said since I was pregnant to just wait until after the baby was born then go see a surgeon. I hadn't had another attac****il about a month ago. (My son will be 2 in a few months) I could probably wait it out a bit since I have only ever had 3 attacks...the doc said once you have gall stones they don't go away and the attacks will only get more frequent.

Don't give up on the 20 lbs...they will come off. I JUST hit pre-preggo weight a few weeks ago and it was such a good feeling. You will get there.
