That's odd. My doctor knew I was single (at the time) and didn't say anything and he knows I'm super fertile. I was on the patch and never got pregnant in 2 years until I went off my birth control. Maybe it's the type of medicine your on. I know that when I was 238 they said they were surprised my birth control worked because it didn't work as well in overweight women.

That is why they really stress that you need to use 2 forms of BC because there is that chance that the pills wont absorb correctly to prevent pregnancy. Your Dr did tell you to use 2 forms didn't he? IF you are pregnant it will NOT kill you or the baby! I got pregnant at 2 1/2 months post op by accident and my daughter and I turned out okay! It will be a lot of work & possible complications but all that can be addressed if you are but don't worry about that until that time comes but it is possible to have a healthy pregnancy this early out. Keep your fingers crossed!!

Yes the doctor should have told you and at the very least asked but it is also our job to be proactive in our health care and educate ourself. I know that in all my research that I did before i had or even considered surgery it talked about birth control and absorption issues in general, That is partly why we will forever have to either chew, crush or have liquid medication for the rest of our lives. I am not saying that you cant be upset because yes they should have said something but you also should have educated yourself when deciding on this life changing surgery. What if it was a medicaion that your life depended on? Would you have then asked about that and researched that? The birth control pill should have been no different. I hope that I was not to harsh and I hope that it all works out.

Thanks everyone, first let me say that I did educate my self I  researched this surgery for over 8 years before I had  it ,  what they did  8 years ago has changed  what they did 4 years ago has changed  from what they do now, but  one  of the problems is  every surgeon says something different , every surgeon has different rules, diets ect , one may say no  this is fine and the other says its not! like you said we have to be on liquid form or chewable form pills for the rest of our lives that is not true, I do not take any chewable vitamins and I know plenty other people that dont either and are just fine.  Some  docs dont require liquid diets before surgery some do ,  and everyones diets are so different after surgery! I did check with my surgeons office today and they said I was fine that I can continue with the pill, they  said  its not so much an absorbtion problem as to why they say use a backup method it is because  most  people  when they are very heavy arent fertile and when they start droping weight  rapindly they become extremely fertil However i do  appreciate everyones responses and now I know ! Thanks

Contrary to other responses, I was on my BC pills for 3 years after surgery and only got pregnant when I stopped taking them, within a month. We never used any secondary method.
