Hi
i'm almost 14 weeks pregnant with twins, I've lost 11lbs since becoming pregnant. I'm not getting in the reccommended 8- 16oz serving of water. And I just feel yucky still about food. I'm worried about gaining the appropriate weight for the babies.
How much did you all gain?
Did it get easier to get in the water?
How much did your babies weight at delivery?
If there are twin moms, what wk did your twins deliver at?

thanks for your input and ideas
Jess

Talk to your ob about getting an ultrasound of the babies sizes. This should tell you if there are growth problems.  I'd imagine you have a high risk ob because of the twins and the bypass. If not you should request one. It will be safer for you all. You also might try drinking low sodium broths etc, this will give you cals protien and h2o, and see a nutritionist if your health plan allows it.

I gained a total of about 11 pounds. Our daughter weighed 6 pounds 7 ounces. Smallest baby I had. I was not high risk from surgery or anything but because I have clotting disorders and all. The bypass was the easiest part for my doc. They said they did not care so much about my weight as if Hayvann was growing correctly and she always was. I did not show untill about 7 months when everyone noticed I was pregnant. LOL I just sipped all day to get in the water. Had to get it in for the baby and so that I would not put her in any harm. It gets easier

I am up 30 pounds and I am having one. I do know I had severe morning sickness and was told to drink whatever went down. That helped me get fluid in when I was so sick. My problem was also the water made me sick. I can drink water now but it has to be ice cold. Once I could drink that I was good to go with my water intake.

Ok, first of all, breathe.

Let me ask you some questions first.   Were you at your goal weight when you got pregnant or did you still have weight to lose?   If you were at goal for some time and were in a maintenance mode with your weight, I may be a tad worried, but even then, I wouldn't put much thought into it.   Babies take what they need from us and leave us for scraps.   My aunt (and this is many MANY years before she had GB) lost 30 pounds during her first pregnancy and went on to deliver a happy healthy 9 plus pound girl.

I am a mom of twins (they are almost 2) and I gained about 42 pounds.   The majority of my weight gain was during the 3rd trimester.   So again, I wouldn't put too much stock into your weight loss at this point.

Also, you do NOT need to demand to be a high risk patient.  I was not deemed a high risk patient when I was pregnant with twins.  I did have a few more ultrasounds than a person carrying a singleton would have, but really that was the extent of my high risk.   They will probably put you on modified bed rest starting around week 20.   I was able to get out, go to the store, walk around, but I just couldn't travel for more than an hour in the car and I had to rest as much as possible.   At week 27, I was put on complete bed rest until week 32.   Then I was free to be until I delivered.   I gave birth, vaginally, a day shy of 37 weeks.

My daughter weighed 5 lbs 1.6 oz and my son weighed 4 lbs 15 oz.   My son spent a day and a half in the NICU and my daughter did not need the NICU at all.  We all went home together 4 days later.   We could have gone home 3 days after I gave birth, but I demanded the extra day because my son did spend time in the NICU (he came out not breathing, but that had nothing to do with me being a GB patient and he is completely fine and healthy as a horse).

Oh and the water.......no, for me it never got easier.   I can drink it now, but when I was pregnant, I could barely choke it down.   The Dr. knew it and basically told me to drink whatever I could to get liquids in.  So that's what I did.   I lived on dry cheerios in the beginning of my pregnancy.  And while I didn't eat crap, I ate what I want.  I didn't restrict myself and when I had a craving, I ate what I wanted.   I had 9 months to live it up and I did.   I'm not saying you should camp out at McDonald's and go to town for all meals, but I think you get the idea.

I also have a 7 month (almost 8 month old) old and I gained 23 pounds with her (she weighed 6 lbs 9 oz) just to give you some perspective.  I have since lost all my pregnancy weight and then some.

You are going to be fine and the babies will be just fine too!  Now go eat a cookie or something.  LOL
