Has anyone bought a used breast pump on ebay?
Hi Guys
Just wondering if anyone has every bought a used breast pump like on ebay. I know there are only a few that are recommended for use by more than one person but I know people that have shared pumps. The pump I want is very expensive but there are several on ebay and they say they are sterilized and only used once. Also, if you have any pump recommendations I would love to hear them. My friend has recommended the Medela Pump n Style.
Thanks

I bought a used pump on craigslist. They say not to share them, but all of the parts that your breast milk actually comes into contact with can easily be replaced and/or sterilized. Medela will send you new tubing if you call and new shields/bottles/valves/membranes can be had at most babies R Us stores. I didn't have any trouble with the used Medela I bought and I'm currently loaning it to a friend.

Mine is a medela pump in style my sister in law gave me after she had her 2 kids and I LOVE it. I pumped exclusively for over 6 weeks when my twins were in the NICU and I found the Medela actually worked better for me than the hospital-grade pump they NICU had loaned to me. After 15 months of nursing and using the pump to build up my freezer "stash" of breastmilk, the pump still works like it was brand new.
Like the previous poster said, everything that breastmilk comes in contact with can be replaced or sterilized so using a second hand pump is no problem. So if you can save money buying one on eBay, I say go for it!

I have a medela advanced personal breastpump. I bought it new on ebay and used it from months 4-6 with my son this year. (I had a hospital one for months 1-4). Anyway, I am ready to sell mine, probably on ebay...but if you are interested, let me know. I kind of feel that the 'personal' parts shouldn't be shared, so you would need to buy the connectors, membranes and tubes. Everything else was not used because I used the stuff that I got with my hospital kit. This is a beige shoulder bag version and I loved it. Shari
I am and OB nurse and also a lactation consultant. Except for the rental medla pumps, all of the pumps made by medela are not closed systems. The air that pulls over the nipples to create the suction also pulls over the milk and into the pump motor. The parts are not the problem...the motor is. You can't clean the motor. Unless you know the person who used the pump really well and could honestly say you would allow her to nurse your baby, I would pass on the used pump because you are sharing germs even with new personal pump parts.
