Looking for some advice, or experience, stories, anything!
so just saw the other post about post oper's getting pregnant too early - do I really need to state that this wasn't intentional and that I got pregnant while on Mirena in order to get a reply?
All I'm really curious about is if I need to see both doc's and what everyone else's experiences have been with their ob's in regards to them really understanding out needs. Wonder if I'll have to do most of the educating?

You will have to see your surgeon and the dietician probably to make sure all your vits are where they need to be for the baby. She/he will take everything they need from you and you will be high and dry. The obvious was already stated it wasn't planned so lets just start with take good care of yourself for your baby and everything will be fine. Plenty of women on here have had successful pregnancies that were early on so I'm sure once they see your post some of them will respond. Just here to be supportive, take your prenatal vits for sure and get a list from your surgeon or dietician for what else they recommend. Unfortunately most regular OB docs aren't experienced with GB patients so you have to remind them with each recommendation they give you just to make sure they are taking it into consideration.

I was two years out from surgery when I got preggers so I am a little different. I saw my nut when I went in for my two year appt and we talked about my needs then. My surgeon also defers to the OB since that is their specialty. I have called to check on what is advised for the glucose tolerance test. I would suggest that you find an OB that is familiar with WLS patients. I was changing to a different OB due to hospitals and made sure they had experience. My cousin works at the hospital I am going to and she was able to tell me who I should see so I am not sure how to find one otherwise.
Good luck and congrats!

I found out at 9 months post op too. My daughter will be 6 on December 7th. I took Nutrinate chewable prenatal vitamins and my labs stayed great that pregnancy. I saw my surgeon once after I got pregnant and his nutritionist was so far off base with what I needed to eat I never went back. The most important thing is to stay out of ketosis. I ate high fiber/reduced sugar cereal every day in order to stay out of it but dumped every day because of it.
My second post op pregnancy I was more deficient but had an iron infusion just a month before conception which made things easier. Just a FYI for your next pregnancy.

I was 9 months out, too, when I got pregnant. I'm another one with a failed Mirena. My surgery is different than yours, but I can tell you that the Costco Premium Performance Vitamins are better than most prenatals out there. Maybe just add some extra folic acid and iron along with the multi. And, of course, up your calcium. Also, have your labs monitored closely. My D levels are crap right now because of my pregnancy, but like I said, we have different surgery types.

Hi, I think every surgeon is different. I had my rny in 2007 and my husband and I are planning on getting pregnant. I spoke to my surgeon on my last visit and he was very positive on me getting pregnant. He wants to keep me under his supervision during pregancy and he also recomended an OB Dr that he wants me to see during pregancy. He also wants to be present during the delivery. He even put me on prenetal vitamins and folic acid vitamins already. I think that you just need to make sure that you keep open communications with your DRs, take your vitamins and eat healthy. Congratulations and Good Luck :) keep us posted.
I'm there with you Diana, so we can get through this momma. CONGRATS!! This board has been so helpful to me on getting ideas for staying healthy during this time. I can't offer too much , as I'm still waiting for my 1st official appt on the 12th of Aug and I've never been through this before. I can say the other posters are right, for us RNY'rs who are early out we need to stay OUT of ketosis, as I had ketones found in my urine and was told to up my caloric intake to 1695 and I'm getting in around 1500-1600 calories a day. They retested me last Friday and no more ketones, so 1500-1600 is working for me. Make sure you are getting in your Calcium Citrate about 2000mg and taking your prenatals and mulit vitamins. I've learned sooooo much of this from these wonderful ladies here on OH. Good luck and I hope you can get all your questions answered..Once again..CONGRATS and may you have an UNEVENTFUL pregnancy :)
