NO Glucose test
Hey there,
just my two cents here, but it doesn't really matter how far out you are, whether it's three years or three days, your stomach and intestines are still configured in a way that you don't process sugars the same as everyone else. I am five years out and STILL dump on two bites of ice cream!
Drinking that mixture for a glucose test is not mandatory and you are well within your rights to decline that test. There are a couple others they can do. One is a fasting test, that's what I did. I went to the lab on a Saturday morning and had blood taken after not eating for 14 hours (most of which I slept through). Then I had a normal breakfast, waited a little longer, and had my blood drawn again. Because I declined the traditional glucose test I had to have blood drawn more often, but that was okay and more accurate, I think. I'm just sayin; ...

Ok so like someone else said, this is my two cents worth lol But my OB doc and RN's, as well as my NUT have told me I have 2 options-- 1) do the jellybean test-where they have you eat 19 BRACH's jellybeans (which I believe a serving is 23 or more and there is like 20 some gm of sugar) but you have 10 mins to eat all 19 and then you report to the dr within an hour and at the 1 hour mark, they draw your blood. If you are within normal levels, you are DONE! 2) The NUT told me I have the option of denying the glucose testing all together and that just means that the Dr sends you to the NUT and they put you on the Gestestional DM diet and you have to start poking your finger like 3-5 times a day. Those are the options, me and DH were given, but I am having trouble keepin my sugars above 90 on a good day, even with all of the lil meals and snacks, so I have a feeling Butterbean is deciding for me lol But thats ok as long as we have a HEALTHY baby, I dont care what I have to do!!!! But best of luck with your decisions!!
I declined the glucose test because I've been dumping more during my pregnancy than before. And I certainly was not going through all that sickness, in public, if I could help it.
The doc who is following my pregnancy was a bit skeptic (he's not too aware of the dumping syndrome...all he though tit was a little diarrhea). So we spoke about it, and we opted for the next logical alternative.
And that was, I was followed by the Diabetic Clinic at the hospital. They gave me a glucometer and I had to check my sugar levels everyday for a week. It went pretty well, and turned out that everything was okay.
