Pregnancy , Dumping, & Sugar.....yuck!!
I am not sure if they have anything to do with each other but I thought I would ask if anyone had the same problem....
Before getting pregnant, I noticed that around my period I could eat more and handle more sugar without dumping but the same amount of sugar after my period would send me dumping pretty bad. Crazy huh? Well, now that I am pregnant I figured the same would happen due to hormones but I am SO wrong. This is my 4rd pregnancy (1 miscarriage) and I do not have morning sickness and I had it bad with my first two. However- I do notice that the slightest amount of sugar makes me dump pretty bad. I mean anything over like 3g. Before getting pregnant I was able to handle about 8g without dumping. & I really don't tes****ers, but I just happen to notice. I wish I couldn't handle sugar- it would make things easier on me, but when I don't have any sugar or carbs I get hypoglycemic attacks and start shaking and sweating and my heart is racing and the only thing that gets me out of these "attacks" is having sugar or carbs (protein doesn't work). Sometimes the carbs will not do it and sometimes I feel like the carbs send me into an attack. Since getting pregnant I have had one attack after another all day long. I have an appointment with my ob in 2 weeks but he tells me to just eat something high in protein and high and carbs like cheese and crackers. It doesn't do much.
Any insight?

That is what bothered me before getting pregnant! When I was pms'ing, I had no limits with food and sugar! I could eat all day long which was my problem with weight gain in the first place. I was not overweight my whole life, it was only when my periods started getting bad and I was diagnosed with PMDD in my 20's. It all went downhill from there. I started getting terrible periods and 2 weeks before my period I would eat and eat and eat AND EAT! Now, even after surgery, I still get those fierce -uncontrollable cravings and I find myself eating and eating. =(

If you google PMDD you will see that it is a severe form of PMS. My PMS is not a few days before my period, but 2 weeks and the symptoms are so severe it affects everything I do- my relationship with my kids and my husband, my job , everything. I have ALL PMS symptoms but worse-
* Nightmares
* Cravings
* Bloating
* Gas
* Extreme Fatigue
* Severe Acne
* Severe- MOOD SWINGS!!! (the worst)
* Irritability
* Unable to concentrate
* Feeling out of control and helpless
* Severe depression
* Rage
* anxiety attacks
etc, etc,etc....and they are not mild or moderate, they are severe. I am the calmest and most patient person you can ever meet! I wanted to be a special ed teacher because I grew up with my brother who has down syndrome and the only one who could ever get close to him when he needed something was me. When he needed surgery and threw fits and tried to kill the doctors, I was the only one able to talk him into getting blood drawn and prepped and and IV. I have always been a patient and kind person. With my own kids too- UNTIL.... I am PMSing. Then I am a raging beast! Madness comes out. I suddenly hate my life, I hate my husband, my kids annoy me, I yell out of control (especially at my kids and husband) for no reason! If my 2 year old spills his juice on accident- I flip out and start screaming and yelling. I can't help it. No medicine has ever helped me through it. I found PMDD groups on facebook and they all said a hysterectomy has helped and I considered it many times. My doctor said it would make things worse. I don't know. But that is PMDD. 50% of my life is hell. LOL. Sad but true. I have learned to cope a little better than when I was a teen and wanted to run away or do something stupid. Now I can take a hot shower, walk away, take a nap, anything to get out of it. Sometimes it is not so easy. Some have it worse than me. Hope that helps.

I am able to eat anything! I had a severe case with the hypoglycemia one day while on the freeway with no exits in site, and the only thing I had in the car was a Hershey's bar (left from the kids bonfire). Well I ate the whole darn thing! Then I was mad at myself for it, but it really did help. I know exactly what you mean by the other stuff not helping! I wish I could help you out though!
Wow! I am shocked to hear people can handle anything. I cannot handle anything at all. This morning I decided to have some coffee (decaf) and I was out of sugar free creamer and I reached for the regular creamer (which I have had before at my moms house since she hates sugar free creamer, and I had NO problems), well, this time I had a little bit (litterally, a few drops to sweeten it) and within in minutes....DUMPING! Sick as a dog! It is not morning sickness because oddly enough, I have had NO morning sickness this pregnancy (lucky me!).
As far as the hypoglycemia, how do you deal with it on a regular basis? I have found nothing that works. My dr said eat something with carbs & protein so I can have the carbs for the instant help and protein for the longer lasting effect. She said go for crackers and cheese, for example. However- that never helps. The only thing that works for me is sugar, but then I get dumping from it. Ugggh. I have been dealing with it for over a year. Nothing ever helps and since moving to a new duty station my husbands military insurance wants me to see my primary for my aftercare and she acts like she knows what she is doing, but she doesn't. I begged her for a referral to see a surgeon or a NUT but she is not granting it - so I am "stuck" with her and having a hard time getting the help I need.
Thanks for your response!
