Both of my sons had tubes , but not adnoidectomy. The tubes were painless! They went into the room, and brought back to me less than 5 minutes later! They were groggy for a few minutes, then they were fine. After an hour, it was like nothing happened.

My daughter had this done at 3yrs old. The tubes will be fine but expect his throat to be sore for a couple days. Crying will just aggravate it so try and keep him calm. Have cold things at home (jello, sf ice pops, ect) and put ice in his sippy cups with the fluids. She was only in the hospital for 4 hours. Be careful not to ge****er in his ears. She took baths and stuff with no earplugs but going underwater at a pool is a big no-no.
They let me go into the OR with her until she was under with the anestesia (sp?)
Insist on doing so too. I told her she was going to take a nap in that room and I would see her when she woke up. I had bought a new care bear and tied a get well balloon around its arm, so that is what she saw when she woke up.

I agree with everyone else that tubes are absolutely nothing to worry about it. It's a painless procedure. But, I have to question the removal of the adenoids. Adenoids do grow back and seems like 14 months is young to go through all that and then possibly again a few years down the road. My son had his taken out when he was 4 years old and that was a totally different ballgame compared to the tubes. Wouldn't eat anything for days... groggy... whiney... he was just downright miserable. After about 10 days, he was getting back to his old self. He had his tonsils taken out at the same time too, so maybe that was a double whammy?!  But, I tell you what, that was the best decision I had done concerning him. He has not been sick in almost 2 years!!!

I had that done when I was a few years old and I don't remember any of it so it must not have been too bad! lol! I just remember having to plug my ears everytime I went swimming.
