I was wondering how many calories are you consuming in a day being pregnant? I just want to make sure that I am doing good on that part. I am going to be seeing a nutritionist next visit in a month..I just want to make sure I am doing okay til then. I was before I became pregnant getting in about 1,000 calories in a day. Now I upped my calories to 1500. Is that ok?

I was taking in about 1000 calories a few weeks ago and then the Dr. found Ketones in my urine and I was advised to immediately increase my calories to 1695 (not sure why the odd number), but I've been getting in about 1500-1600 and when they retested my urine yesterday there were no more ketones, so 1500-1600 calories is sustaining a healthy pregnancy for me. The key is to stay out of Ketosis as this can cause brain damage to the fetus, so make sure your Dr. is checking that regularly as us WLS patients tend to get ketones in the urine a lot (due to extremely reduced caloric intake) and it's harmful to the baby.

Okay so then I choose a good number. I am out of ketosis stage I do believe..that is just your first year after surgery. But I am going to be seeing a NUT at my next appt. And they do a test on urine each visit I have gone to so far. Everything is good so far..Odd thing is now I am having a hard time getting in my protein that I need to. I cannot eat chicken anymore or anything dairy makes me sick. In addition to water...I cannot have water anymore either..Water makes me puke it back up and if I keep it down water makes me gassy and bloated. I am drinking juicy juice all day long now....and amazingly I am not gassy or bloated as much since I got rid of water. I told my ob that I was still trying to drink water though but every time I do I get sick. So I am staying away from things that make me sick. I have no idea what has good protein in it besides peanuts and Im getting sick of peanuts. I was loving yogurt and cottage cheese and shakes with milk and fruits. And now milk makes me gag. I have not tried any other kind of meat yet..and sandwich meat does not agree with me either. I am lost on what other things to try and if anyone knows please let me know. Right now I am living off of spag o's, thin pizza, baby spinach salad, pickles, mixed fruit, peaches, pears, soups, chocolate covered peanuts, and certain Tv dinners. And none of these things are high in protein really unless you eat a lot of it. My food list sucks. Anything else I was having before I get sick on so I refuse to eat it now. And most of my 1500 calories come from my juice that I drink. I really do not eat much of these things either. Used to loved sandwiches with some fruit and I cannot stand the bread or sandwich meat. I just have no idea what to do.

I was eating about 1000 calories a day pre-pregnancy and upped it to 1500-1800 a day after meeting with my nutritionist.
Even at this amount I'm still dropping weight like crazy so my Nut suggested to try to reach 2000 a day to maintain my weight.

I just went to my nutritionist tand they want me to eat 1800 cal a day..but was very concerned about me getting in the carbs..and the protein each meal and eating every couple hours.  Since my bypass which was nov 08, I eat very, very little and they are very concerned.  I have to test keytones daily and even though my blood sugars in the AM have been about 100, they told me if I can't get them under 95, I will end up on insulin!!  UGH!
