Kenzie's Birth & Pics
Hi
I am having a scheduled c section September 30th and plan to breastfeed. I was curious what pain meds they allow you to take after a c section if you are breastfeeding. I am hopeful that the doctors will know but I wanted to have some info on it myself. With my first daughter I had a c section but was not able to breast feed so it didn't matter what they gave me. Thanks for any info on this

I swear my Ob had EVERY single pain med known to man ordered. apparently he just routinely orders everything we can safely take and if we need it, it's there. I had Fentanyl in my epidural pump that I kept in my back for 24 hours, then I used Toredol wit it (IV) for the first 24. hen they put me on oral meds and they alternated me between Percocet and Dilaudid every 3 hours. I had a while bunch of other stuff ordered too that I never took such as Oxycontin (would never take that crap) and I took some kind of anti-inflammatory a couple of times because they told me it was like a pill form of Toredol and then I asked the nurse exactly what it was for and she said it was an anti-inflammatory and I said, Ooops, I wasn't/t suppose to be taking oral AI's. So needless to say, I stopped taking that one. I went home on one pain med (Dilaudid 2mg. It's a class B med so it's pretty safe) and I was off it in 3 days. Just been taking Tylenol for pain now and I'm doing pretty good.
Every OB is different as to what they prescribe. After I had my last one, I was on a Morphine pump and went home on Darvocet. For my 3rd baby, I did the epidural pain management thing and had to have Toredol and Nubain IV and went home on Percocet. With my 2nd, I went home on Darvocet and had Demerol pain pump in the hospital. And I don't remember what I got with my first one....he'll be 15 on the 21st so that was a while back! LOL
Good luck to you. Please be sure to go over this with your doc before you go in. I was NOT supposed to have an epidural and they gave me one anyway. In the end, I'm kinda glad I had it. I was only supposed to have a spinal, but.....whatever, it worked out and they maintained my blood pressure just fine, which was what I was worried about with getting the epidural. Please know what your Doc has planned for you beforehand or you could get stuck afterwards. Good luck!!

Thank you Kim! She's such a good baby. Doesn't like to be naked....or cold....or wiped with wipie....lol But she's not gaining weight! Took her to the Dr. today and she hasn't gained not one ounce since we left the hospital and she's two weeks old. Maybe my milk sucks cuz she sure eats enough....at least 15-30 minutes on each side at each feeding. We now have to supplement her with formula twice a day. I don't know what to think about that....but it's what's best for her. As long as she can still nurse too. Had to start her on vitamins as well. She still has some pretty mean jaundice as well so they're checking her bilirubin again. I hope all this stuff straightens out and she's A-ok. It's weird to think that I was suppose to deliver her today. lol
