Nerves...and a little vent.....

Hi everyone!

Tomorrow is the baby shower that my sister, her GF and my mom are throwing for me.  I am nervous.  My sister said yesterday that over 40 people have RSVP's.......I get extrememly nervous in crowds, even crowds of people I know.  And of course, I can't take a Xanax before hand........I just know that with the hormones and having an anxiety disorder that it is going to be a most uncomfortable two hours.  I hate being the center of attention.......

Now to the vent.......I posted a little while back that the gender of the baby came into question.  I had an u/s at my visit on Thursday.  The u/s tech said she would most definitley wash the pink.....The day before that my BF and I exchanged the pink bedding we had (wanted the nursery to be neutral....just in case) and went with a green/yellow baby safari animal theme.  My mom and dad were here.....dad helped finish putting together the furniture and mom and I washed the bedding.  So that night, the crib was dressed and it looks really good.  Mom said she liked it, but the next day when I told her about the u/s she said, in a smart alec tone, bet you regret returning the pink.

I don't regret returning the pink......I think the baby safari animals are adorable and actually love the colors.  But she has been obsessing about that since Thursday......I bet I hear about that pink bedding 6 times a day.  And she won't let up........no matter how much I try to get her to stop.  I know this is just the beginning.......the first of many things I will do wrong in her eyes.  I might have to be mean to get her to lay off.........because quite frankly she lived with a mother-in-law that did those things to her and she hated it.

Sorry.....I know hormones are high.  I just needed to let it out.....

Thanks for listening!

Hmm, tell her your baby couldn't care less what color her bedding is and there will be more important things to worry about later. You can always add more pink to the room afterwards.
As for the shower, try to relax and enjoy your day. Everyone will be there celebrating your upcoming arrival with you (everyone loves baby showers). Plus if you are a litlle antsy, you can blame it on the pregnancy hormones, lol. Have a fun and fabulous day, don't let anyone get you down, and post lots of pics later!!! Cheers!

Hopefully you can make it through, and when the baby comes they forget all about all the stupid petty BS.

Take a deep breath and if you start to panic excuse yourself and take extra bathroom breaks. it's what I did.

Hope it all went great and you were able to relax and enjoy it. Like a PP said, if you did freak out, hope you blamed the hormones. ;)

As far as mother issues go, I have no advice other than remind her it's your baby not hers. Good luck!

Tell her that, originally, pink was designated for boys, as it was thought to be the stronger color. In Christian tradition, red was associated as male, and its ‘little’ sibling pink was used for boys. Blue was associated the Virgin Mary and therefore considered feminine.

I'm late in reading this...Hope your shower went well. I'm just like you - scared to death to be in the center of attention. Even if it is close friends and family. Just have to grin and bear it...

As far as your mom...when she brings it up, don't say anything in response to her comment. Just change the subject and go on. It takes two people to have a disagreement. If you don't participate, she'll have no choice but to drop it!!

Good luck!!
