Suggestions for morning sickness?

Wow, it's funny how you forget the crazy things from the first pregnancy...my son is about to be 5.

Found out I am 4 weeks 4 days pregnant. I have been having morning morning sickness-mostly in the evenings, but during the day too.

What is the best thing to calm it?

I have also been falling asleep at work a lot, at the dinner table, in the middle of homework...any suggestions on how to keep the energy up? At least long enough to not get caught at work? I actually dozed off in the middle of creating invoices last Friday!!!  Yikes!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

xoxo,

sugar free altoids and oyster crackers were my best friends for the first 12 weeks.

As for the staying awake thing, keep cold water near you and just keep sipping, that helped me somewhat.

Good luck and I hope that the MS passes quickly!

Thanks Liz.
Didn't realize they made sugar free altoids. I am certainly going shopping this weekend.

Here's the bummer...I'm early out...and I was already teetering between 10s and 12s...too early to buy maternity but yeah, those 10s are so not working anymore...dang it. LOL

Cold water, check.

Thanks again!!!

Just want to say I feel for you! Not much for advice here...

I don't have much help for keeping awake. I was about that bad too. Plenty of proteins...

I heard stuff with ginger in it helps. Like ginger ale, ginger tea, ginger lozenges, etc. Hmm...what about ginger snap cookies? Also small meals frequently so your tummy is never empty, but not full either.

If your morning sickness is very bad, your doctor can give you a prescription I believe. Mine was never very bad, just some dizziness and that wasn't very often.

Best wishes.
Take care of yourself!!
Kina

Thanks Kina....I knew about Ginger...oddly, not sure where to get ginger stuff at. I'm not a carbonation kind of girl, so I haven't been able to turn to my trusty 7-11 or Sprite like I did the first time.
I did wonder about ginger snap cookies though...I like that idea (if it'll work).

Luckily it's not enough to need a script from the doc, just uncomfortable is all.

Thanks again!!!

Hi!  Congrats on your pregnancy!

I have had some nausea throughout the day, but it's subsided substantially.  Hang in there... for most people it gets better once they're into the second trimester!

One thing that really helped me was eating smaller "meals" or snacks every couple of hours.  I know that it seems weird to do that because we're weight loss surgery patients, and it's against everything that we've trained ourselves to do... but, you will find that you feel MUCH better if you have something in your stomach.  When I'm running on empty, I feel like crap!

As far as he energy goes... I can't really help you there.  I have been exhausted and after work I can't wait to lay down and relax.  Going to sleep earlier (for a couple extra hours) has helped a bit, but I don't know if that's realistic for you or not since you have a kiddo already.

Thank you. :-)

I know it'll subside after the 1st trimester...just seems so far away. LOL

It seams that every time I eat that's what triggers a stronger round of nausea. You're right though, it is so against everything we have taught ourselves.  :-)

Sleep would be nice...but you're right, with a kiddo already under foot there is no early bedtime for me.

I just need to keep it in my head...2nd trimester is around the corner, eventually. Ha ha ha

Thanks again!!

I smell fresh ginger - i just cut off a piece of the root and keep it with me.  The smell calms my stomach.  I also wear Sea-Bands.

I started at 324lbs and a size 26.  After losing 100 lbs, I became pregnant with my first daughter, who was born in March 2011.  My second daughter was born in September 2013.  I have maintained a healthy lifestyle and now hover around 160lbs.  I would like to get back to the 140lbs before I became pregnant with my second daughter.  The sleeve literally gave me LIFE - two beautiful, healthy little girls.  My husband had his VSG with Dr. Marema on 10/1/2012 and is on his weight loss journey, currently down 90lbs.

Sea bands....that's another idea.

Thanks for the suggestions  :-)

Sugar free starlight mints, sugar free butter toffee and just snacking on stuff all day keeps it away for me. I am in my 2nd trimester and the MS is still with me if I get too hungry.

Congrats :)
