I agree with everyone else. Totally standard. I had more ultrasounds because I was on progesterone and had a previous missed miscarriage. If you like her you should stay with her.

The fact that you had RNY a year ago should qualify you for High Risk. They need to monitior your blood and vitamin levels every month. Can you get a referral from your surgeon (if needed). All my pre-op paperwork states that if I were to become pregnant, I must see a high risk doctor. I have no problem with that :)

Hi,

Sorry  your disappointed with your appointment today. Everything your OB did is very normal.
I have had HBP for many years and have had two post opp babies. I was NOT considered
high risk because it was closely monitered and controlled with meds :-)

I would take my BP twice a day and log information into a small book. This is becaue I tend to run very high numbers at the dr's office. If you feel this OB isnt for you, then NOW is the time to start shopping around.

I wish you a Very uneventful and healthy pregnancy.

I agree that it's pretty standard procedure to wait to have an ultrasound done.  If you don't WANT to wait that long, you can always pay out of pocket to go to one of those boutiques that do the 3D ones.  I think it's between $50-100.  My doctor's office does not offer the "gender determination" ultrasound, so I have to go to a boutique to have it done.  It's $55.

I am due in early February, and my OB wants to see me once a month, until I'm further along (not sure how far).  Then, it's every two weeks, and then for the last month, once a wee****il delivery.

You picked a small practice so get used to the waiting.  Mine had 12 doctors and I still had to wait.  That is just how it is with any kind of a doctor's office.  So to complain about the OB at the hospital doing a c-section is just childish, rude, and well just wrong.  I had to have an 911 c-section with my first and to hear you whine about having to wait while that doctor was busy saving either the mother's life of the baby's well is just tacky.

Most practices won't take WLS as a high risk unless there is a reason... aka just had the surgery or not at goal yet or was type2 before WLS.  Having an STD also doesn't make you high risk.

But you went unpared so don't whine about not eating etc... Liz was right you should always have stuff on you because you have had WLS and now that you are pregnant you should ALWAYS have something on you because now you aren't just harming yourself but the baby as well.

Girl it is time to get your head out of the clouds and your feet on the ground.  You need to think baby first and then yoursel*****o the library and get books read up... because I am sure you want to be a good mom in the end.

Whoa, Shannon. Lets take it down a notch. I think what she wrote in her original post was the typical thought process of a first-time hormonal preggo :P I don't think she meant to be rude or obnoxious or however you put it. There's no one book-that-knows-all out there that has it all right, especially about your first OB visit.

Just for comparison, just about every response on here told her that what she experienced was pretty typical, but at the same time, my OB does an ultrasound at the first visit (usually 8-10 weeks) and even listens for the heart beat, gives you the option of having first-trimester screening (nuchal transluscency) between 11 and 13 weeks, and then they bring me in again at 18-20 weeks for and ultrasound for gender and check up. So... while what she experienced might not be abnormal for most, it's not what ALL practices do. If she shops around, she probably will find someone that does things differently.

I think it was a little harsh to jump on her for asking simple first preggo questions. I read the post too, and didn't see anything that jumped out as being offensive.

Shannon, are you okay? We're ladies here and shouldn't talk to each other this way.  I totally understand Dee's frustration sometimes it is a long wait at the docs office and we're aloud to bi&&* about it, so let her vent. I'm sure she understands a baby is being born, but hear her out and don't judge. Your post is quite disturbing and it discourages some to not express how they feel. Now I understand these posts should allow people to express their opinions, but it also states don't be "abusive" and your post WAS RUDE in my opinion. I'm going to pray for you, as the christian in me just cringed at the harsh words you chose to use.

The fact that you're very close to only one year post op RNY might make you HIGH RISK just with that.

RNY causes anemia -- anemia can max out in pregnancy pretty badly - watch for that.

Also -- vitamin issues.

And - glucose issues.

How is your health besides what you mentioned?

I assume you have stopped losing weight?

I was anemic before my surgery..I ended up being put on Repliva for awhile. Now my iron levels are find and I do take two iron pills daily and my vitamins levels are good. I have had blood work done three times already and everything seems to be fine so far in the last 10 weeks.  And yes I have not lost any weight in awhile. I got down to 192..but now I am up to 197. But when I found out I was pregnant I was 197..Im kinda bouncing between 192-197. Which is the 5 pound up and down that everyone seems to gain and lose every month. At least that was what I understand that every woman goes up and down between 5lbs every month normally around your period. I have not gained or lost anything in two months. I had just another 22lbs to go to get to my goal weight. I would of thought the same thing about being a year out would be high risk but as long as everything is controlled good I am not.
