I want to hear them all, good and bad. If you are willing to share.

I am getting ready to have an RNY on August 9th and am already 33 years old. We really want to extend our family but I know I should not conceive for at LEAST 18 months post op.

Please include how far post op you were when you conceived!

Thank you all so much in advance!

Hello and welcome!

I was exactly 12 months out and a 130 pounds gone. My pregnancy went normal, no problems at all, no morning sickness, no swelling, great pregnancy. Had a c-section but that has nothing to do with weightloss surgery. He is almost 19 months now and he is great!

I am 36 years old and will be delivering my 2nd baby this Friday.

Good luck with your surgery!!!

I am 30 and had PCOS pre-op. I was 2 1/2 years out when I got pregnant. I have lost 150 pounds. I didn't have any issues with the pregnancy that weren't "normal"

My baby is now a healthy 2 month old

I was about 3 years out from RNY when I got preggo with my first born. I was 23 (20 when I had my GB). I hardly had any symptoms at all, no morning sickness whatsoever. In fact, ever since my gastric bypass, I don't really experience nausea like I did pre-op. I get queasy at most, but the only time I have that tongue pulling back in my throat feeling is if I get a stomach virus.

Anyways, the pregnancy went perfect with the exception of my sugars. They tested my sugars wrong (1 hour after eating, instead of 2) and got  high readings and flipped thinking I had gestational diabetes. So I had to sit through the 3 hour how-to-eat seminar, all to find out later that if they had just tested the right way in the first place it would've been totally fine. I skipped the glucose test at 27 weeks and kept an eye on my own sugars instead just to make sure. Other than that, I had a totally normal pregnancy, and gained 29 lbs. I went through natural child birth, no eppi, and had a beautiful healthy baby boy weighing in at 7 lb 7 oz (3 weeks early!).

I breastfed afterwards, and despite what a lot of women say, I did not find it so easy to lose the baby weight. Something about baby weight sticks to your bones like glue. It took me about a year to lose it all, but I was a tad over my goal weight to begin with so I still have a few I'd like to lose-- and it's been about 2 years, lol. Now I'm preggo with #2, so I'll have to put that wish on hold for another 8 months or so :P

I was 26 when I had my surgery...I had PCOS also. Was told I would NEVER have children....I had surgery on 2-2-09 and got pregnant on 10-23-09 (we are pretty positive on that date...lol) just 9 months post op and 150lbs down. (start weight of 330)

My pregnancy - considered high risk because none of the ob's out here have ever dealt with RNY patients before.  I did have a bit of trouble in the beginning with getting enough calories...I was still only getting about 600 calories when I got pregnant, and apparently that isnt enough to feed mommy and baby. (I was actually having fainting spells in the first trimester until I was able to get this under control) After I was able to "graze" eat...and get more calories things were great until about 24 weeks.  I started having preterm labor.  (Had nothing to do with my WLS, to my knowledge) I was but on Terbutaline around 28 weeks....and stopped that at 36w6d because the rx ran out... I called my dr who told me that this would be fine, usually people on Terb. didnt go into labor until 38-39 weeks after the Terb was stopped....HAHAHAHA Jokes on him!!  I went into labor at 36w4d!

My daughter was born a healthy 6lbs 6ozs.  I forgot to take vitamins a lot of days.. (im horrible remembering pills) however my levels were checked EVERY visit (2weeks) and I maintained everything at a normal level (EVEN IRON

I have been successfully breast feeding my daughter for what will be 4 weeks friday.  She is thriving like any newborn would!

Dont be worried, everyone says 12-18 weeks...but I think when you are ready you are ready. I will probably get a lot of flack here for saying that, but I dont regret one bit of my pregnancy...we were cleared by my surgeon, family dr, and nut. to start trying at 9 months post op cause EVERYONE agreed it would take FOREVER for my body to adjust to all the changes....

God had other plans.  Thank goodness for that!  Do what is best for you....and make your own dreams come true.

I was 25 when I had RNY. I was 365 lbs and suffering from some pretty wicked PCOS. I got pregnant with my 1st at 23 months post op ( I found out the day before my 27th birthday!) and delivered my 1st daughter in Aug of 2007. I got pregnant again in Feb of 2008 and miscarried in April of 2008. I again was able to conceive in Sept of 2008 and had my 2nd beautfiul daughter in June of 2009.  I became pregnant with my son in Oct of 2009 and just gave birth to him 2 weeks ago.

In all 3 pregnancies the only real issue I had was slight IUGR. My babies have been born at 38 weeks 5 days (#1 and #2) and 38 weeks 6 days (#3).  My first child was 5 lbs 9 oz, my second was 6 lbs 10 oz and my third was 6 lbs 7 oz..

All 3 are happy and healthy - I wouldn't change any of it and am already looking forward to #4! :)

Hello and welcome to the board!

I was 26 when I became pregnant. I had RNY on 1/21/09 and got preggo on 4/2/09 by complete accident!! I had lost about 75lbs at that point and weighed in at 360lbs. I lost weight up until about 20wks. when I got to 285lbs. I had no complications. They monitored me very closely and by 32 weeks I was going in weekly for an ultrasound and a non stress test. I had no pre term labor. I went into labor on my own at 40wks 1day and gave birth to a baby girl weighing in at 9lbs 5oz & 21 1/2 in long. My weight loss picked right back up where it left off. I have been breastfeeding for 7mo now with no problems until recently now that she has started eating solids and because I got my period back. I am now down a total of 239lbs and weigh in at 196lbs.

You ladies have wonderfully inspiring stories! Thank you all so very much!!

I was TCC'ing for 6 years and after tons of fertility treatments finally conceived my, now 1 year old son. Like many of you I too have PCOS. I am hoping and praying that this weight loss surgery not only improves my quality of life and allows me to enjoy my 1 year old, but also will enable me to conceive more little miracles without all the fertility treatments. My pregnancy was horrible in the end. I ended up with pre-eclampsia and I know had I been at a better weight that probably wouldnt have happened. I told myself I wouldnt conceive again until I was at a more reasonable weight.

Thank you all again! Keep em coming!! I am 10 days away from surgery and need all the inspiration I can get!

thanks for starting this thread, coastiesgirl, and thanks for all of the terrific replies, ladies.

like the original poster, i'm 33 w/ PCOS, and headed in for an RNY this month (8/3). we have no children yet, and one of the major motivations for surgery is to be healthy enough to conceive - and of course be around to raise - kids!

many thanks again for all of the info and support!
