Question about pregnancy and nutrition
I had VSG almost 2 years ago and I will be six weeks pregnant on Friday. YAY ME!!! Andy and I have a nine year old and have been trying for years and it FINALLY happened.
So far I am feeling good. I am tired and a little nauseous but overall I feel good. My first pregnancy I was 230 when I found out. I was 165 when I got pregnant this time and am hoping that I can keep my weight gain around 20 pounds. As soon as I found out I was pregnant I switched my diet to more low fat than low carb because I felt more comfortable eating low fat while pregnant. Also, with my first pregnancy I was not a meat eater. Preparing raw meat and eating meat period has a tendancy to make me queezy. I was hoping since I had been on low carb for so long that would change this time. I'm not so lucky. Sometimes protein makes me just want to vomit. I still choke it down because I know I need it. I am also having cravings that I was hoping I could avoid. All of my cravings so far seem to involve carbs and sugar. I try to satisfy them with sugar free items and for the most part I do but there are times that will get harder as the months progress.
My question is How did your diet change when you were pregnant? Did you give in to cravings? How much weight did you gain?
Thanks ladies,
Brooke

I'm in the midst of this and I'm just giving the belly what it wants. Morning sickness is pretty bad for me and I need to do all it takes to help it. I'm not worried about gain, but I'm not as far out as you are. But, being pregnant is not the time to diet. I would just make healthy decisions, but honor your aversions. Good luck!
I started at 324lbs and a size 26. After losing 100 lbs, I became pregnant with my first daughter, who was born in March 2011. My second daughter was born in September 2013. I have maintained a healthy lifestyle and now hover around 160lbs. I would like to get back to the 140lbs before I became pregnant with my second daughter. The sleeve literally gave me LIFE - two beautiful, healthy little girls. My husband had his VSG with Dr. Marema on 10/1/2012 and is on his weight loss journey, currently down 90lbs.
Oh im def giving in to my cravings. I have morning sickness horrible..and honestly the worse part of it I cannot drink Water!!!! I drink half a glass and im ready to vomit and I do. I just kept drinking it until I realized omg Im losing weight cause I could not hold down anything I was eating or drinking anymore...WAter and Chicken and my veggies..all make me sick!!! Weird. Your body does strange things when your hormones are much higher and different. However, I can drink juicy juice and ginger ale and those drinks are my friends right now. As far as diet..well mine has gone out the window cause this baby is craving sweets, pizza, ramen noodles, salads, and fruits. About all i can hold down right now. My salads are more of the baby spinach and pickles with dressing and cheese. Fruits are the fruit cups or just plain peaches or pears. Ramen Noodles is like a soup and that helps my nausea..and Pizza well idk but I can eat it and hold it down and sweets..so far cupcakes, almond joys, and choc. chip cookies..mmm i crave horrible. If I eat chicken with salad I feel like crap..like i used to...and if I eat plain veggies..Omg i get all gassy and bloated. I used to eat cottage cheese with my fruit...cannot drink Milk or have any dairy right now makes me sick. I am eating and drinking what I can hold down right at the moment....I am praying the morning sickness goes away in 3 weeks after my first trimester and I am going to keep trying the healthy foods....but if i get sick...Im going to eat what I can for me and the baby to be healthy...either way..you have to eat something. And just so you know Im 9 weeks and have not gained a pound yet!!!!! Most likely because even tho I am holding down some food I do tend to try water or something else again and end up puking. So i have good days and bad days..the good days...im eating what agrees with me...then the bad days..im trying to get better and i end up sick all over again for the entire day!!! Im just praying that eventually it goes away..and besides what I eat...the smell of things make me sick..so even if im holding down what I do eat and I walk into my Kitchen where the cat food is....OH lord..if it bothers me Im puking. I have it bad!! Best of luck to you!!!
