Mine & Adelyn's Update
Sorry I haven't been around the last 3 weeks. Adelyn was born and pretty much 4 days later we were moving into a new house. With 8 kids, moving, and a baby who was nursing seemingly 24/7 AAAAND no "real" internet I simply didn't have a chance to get back on here or other sites for that matter for any updates.
We just finally got our internet hooked back up here at the new place today (finally), and ironically Ady decided to take the day off the boob, so it seems, and has been napping all day long. I'm sure she'll be up soon to eat again, but until then I'll surf and post.
As for a quick birth story . . .
On July 8th at about 2:04pm my water broke. Excitement filtered through the family as the kids realized that the baby was REALLY coming. It took another hour before contractions started though. At about 3:06pm the first "real" contraction hit me. Things really started to pick up maybe a half hour after that and that is when I had DH fill the bathtub up.
The contractions weren't very painful and they weren't coming close together. I was pretty much relaxed through the whole thing and was able to talk normally throughout the WHOLE labor. I did get VERY tired once I got in the tub and I just pretty much kept my eyes closed the whole time relaxing between contractions.
It was a very HOT and humid day and there were storms happening outside so the day was quite dreary and grey but it also meant the bathroom was super hot, humid and slightly uncomfortable. So I had my older girls bring in the box fan to help cool me off.
There were a few contractions here and there where I felt the urge to push and I'd push with them, but then the next contraction I wouldn't feel the urge, which was really odd to me.
When I started to freak out a bit about how "long" the labor was taking (yeah, yeah, yeah 2-3 hours is SHORT for many. LOL) that is when things finally moved along. I finally really felt the urge to push and after 3 good pushes Adelyn was born. Joe tried to get me to slow down a bit so I wouldn't tear but after breathing through some pain I pretty much said "To hell with this. It's my last baby and I want her OUT NOW!" and so I just kept pushing. I did tear a little and I could tell, but I seriously did not care.
I know throughout my pregnancy and with as much as Ady kept twisting and turning inside me I seriously feared she'd be tangled in her cord. But she came out tangle free and with the cord just draped over her shoulders. She cried immediately and was quite alert. After her first cry she pretty much calmed right down and just took everything in, especially all of her brothers and sisters surrounding her. She had almost no vernix on her but was very mucousy. I nursed her a little bit too, for the first time.
Dad cut the cord initially but then Liam did the honors of cutting the cord to size, later on. Dad and the kids took Ady to the bedroom to clean her up and oooo and aaah over her while I took a shower and got cleaned up myself. After I delivered the placenta of course.
When, I came out of the shower we finally weighed Adelyn. I had guessed she'd only weigh between 6-7lbs but we were all shocked when the scale read 8lbs 4oz. She has to be all muscle because she certainly has little fat on her.
About an hour or two after she arrived we got online and made the announcements that needed to be made and then Ady and I settled into bed for a nice nap.
Since Adelyn was born the kids have certainly fallen in love with her and I am constantly asked if Ady can be held, about 20million times a day. Of course she is usually nursing or sleeping.
On Adelyn's due date; July 21, 2010; Dh and I took Adelyn to the Vital Records office and applied and recieved her birth certificate. That same day I went to the concert I had been waiting to go to for over a year with all 4 of my girls. So Ady got to go to the Lilith Fair with us. All 5 of us girls had a blast, even though Ady pretty much nursed the whole time, LOL.
So that is where I am at right now. In a new house with a new baby, and a LOT of unpacked boxes filling the halls and rooms.
Ady barely let me write this up and she is already demanding my attention and boobs again. Last week she was back up to her birth weight, too. She is doing great!
Smiling away!
Adelyn at the Lilith Fair, as calm as can be.
Bright eyes.
My cuddle bug!
I love this smile pic.
So that's it for now.

Mom to 8 ~ Adelyn Grace arrived July 8, 2010!
I think it takes courage to hand over my freedom to a hospital or even midwife. ;) I think my forst birth would have been a normal vaginal delivery if I had been left to birth on my own. But we live and learn, and we do what we are most comfortable with at any given time; especially with the information we have at the time too. UC's and even HB's are NOT for everyone. I have been truly blessed to be able to have 6 uncomplicated unassisted homebirths.
