Gallbladder issues during/after pregnancy?

Hi Ladies,

Apparently I have developed Gallbladder issues since my pregnancy. I now understand that developing gallbladder issues or stones is common during and after pregancy, especially if you are overweight.   I first noticed it and didn't know what the pain was the very 1st week after I delivered (4 months ago).  It got sooo bad a couple of weeks ago that I finally went to see my Doctor and he diagnosed it.

Has anyone else had this issue?  Did you have to get your gallbladder removed?  How does that effect us gastric bypass folks?

Thanks for any info.

Not quite the same situation as you, but I had my gallbladder removed in 1998. I had RNY in 2005. I haven't had any issues with the two.

If you have to have it removed, I'm sure they will do it laproscopic and, believe me, it's a breeze compared to the RNY I had.

Best wishes
Kina

Usually, once the problems start, you might as well plan on having the gallbladder removed. In the meantime, try to eat 0 fat if possible to minimize your discomfort. gallbladder surgery can usually be done lap, and isn't too bad. I went home the day after mine and could have gone back to work about 3 days after surgery (I do have a desk job).

I had mine removed when my son was 6 weeks old...several years before WLS.  I don't think the removal of it post-WLS will affect anything....and knowing how much pain it causes...when they told me what it was and that it could be removed...I said, 'Well....?! What're you waiting for?!' They can do it laproscopically most of the time, so the recovery is much easier.  Good luck.

I had my gallbladder removed when I was 28 weeks pregnant. They did have to do it open surgery since I was so far along and everything was moved around. It helped me so much. My son just had his out this month and he is 16.

Thanks for your responses.  My Dr. has me taking Protronics aka stronger Prilosec for the next 12 weeks.  It is definitely helping because I haven't had that terrible pain in my back since I have been taking it.  I guess that only time will tell.

Thanks again!
