Did any of you have issues with maintaining a pregnancy before surgery but then have success post op?

I lost three babies between the time I had Ewan and my surgery. Part of the reason I had the surgery (VSG) was because I wanted a better shot at conceiving, carrying and delivering a healthy baby.  Please tell me if you've dealt with anything similar and share your successes.

Thanks, ladies!

I think you will find that A LOT of women here suffered infertility and other pregnancy related issues pre-wls.

I was one of them.

I had a different surgery, but for what it's worth...

I had extremely irregular periods before my surgery, and sometimes I would only get 4-5 a year, and they were super light.  I was told by two different doctors that I would never be able to conceive naturally and that the only way I'd be able to was by IVF because my ovulation was sporadic or non-existent.

Fast forward 17 months and 110 pounds.  My periods had regulated themselves for about 10 months, I was able to track my ovulation cycles, and my husband knocked me up the first shot right out of the gate.  LOL.

Like you, the primary reason I chose to have weight loss surgery was because I was terrified of having a complicated pregnancy, and the affect it could have on my baby.  I watched my best friend (320 pounds at 5'7") almost die in childbirth, and her son had to be delivered 7 weeks early.  Thankfully they're both okay now, but it scared the hell out of me.  I scheduled my consultation the next day!!

Prior to my VSG, my husband & I suffered "unexplained infertility". After a lot of testing, they eventually told us that our issue was a mucous incompatibility. So, bypassing my cervix was our only option. So, we tried the least expensive/invasive first & did an IUI that successfully resulted in a twin pregnancy. At 28 weeks, I was put on bed rest due to horrible swelling & very high blood pressure. At 31 weeks, my preeclampsia was so bad, I had to deliver via emergency c-section. I honestly think my weight played a huge factor in my complications. 3yrs later, 4 months post-op VSG, and at my goal weight of 155 lbs, I found out that I was pregnant. So, apparently, my weight played more of a role than any of us thought. I was very worried because I was so early post-op, but my doctors were confident that baby & I would do just fine. It helped that I had already reached my goal & wasn't trying to lose much more. I started on Prenate DHA once a day for my vitamin & started making healthier, protein rich food choices. I still struggle to get enough fluids, but it's a work in progress. Today, baby is growing great & I feel better than i have in a long time. The trimester was definitely a challenge. I had a ton of nausea from my sleeve & pregnancy only exacerbated the nausea. After that, things have been going great : ) I wish you the very best !!! This site & all the amazing women who participate have been a blessing !!! I hope you get all the answers & reassurance you need : )
