teething poops and diaper rash

So, we determined that all of Rowan's ;ate night screaming the other night was the result of his upper teeth trying to come in. Now we;ve got him on a little ibuprofen a couple times a day and that has helped a LOT.
BUT
or should I say BUTT
I think he's having teething poops. He's pooping a lot more often, including at night (which he never does), they're yellow and kind of mucousy, and apparently made of acid because his poor hiney is SO red and irritated.
I'm slathering Dr. Smith's on super thick after every change, but he is so sore he's actually starting to cry when he poops and he cries when we have to wipe him (we use unscented wipes)
Is there any other product out there that you know of that is extra soothing?
We're also doing some "diaper free" time when we can to help him dry out.

I sure hope you get some good advice on this one because we are going through the EXACT same thing! I feel so bad for Annie and it just seems like her rash is getting worse and not better. We have tried Butt Paste and Desitin and neither has helped so far. I was told yesterday to actually burn flour in a pan and put that on her butt and it will clear it right up - needless to say we haven't tried it yet. lol! It's just the strangest thing because she is seriously pooping like 6x a day and like you said, even at night, which she never does!

awww poor Rowan!! My mom's a nurse and she told me to put Lotrimin on it. It really did take the red away and soothe it, also kinda weird but it does work is my nipple cream. Medela nipple thereapy if you have some. It helps Bella alot. I know Bella is teething her lowers and she has woke up everynight with runny acidy poops too!! I read online to not use destin b/c it has alcohol and can burn. I dunno if that's true or not. Hope Rowan feels better soon!!

You just described Josiah's teething to a T... It got so bad with him he bled a few times. It broke my heart. I bought him to the doctors the 1st time because I thought it was yeast. He gave me some nystatin and told me to mix equal amounts of that, zinc oxyide and hycordozone. Worked like a charm. I wouldn't use any wipes on him... I would use a warm wash cloth to clean him up. We also use nighttime desitin which is wicked thick and works great. I hope his rash goes away soon... :-(

The others gave you great advice.  I would also use aquaphor as a barrier to keep the moisture off his poor bum.

I agree with the PP, too!
When Lydia gets diaper rash (she is sooo sensitive! Allergic to EVERY diaper but the Target brand!) I use a combination of a 40% zinc diaper rash cream (also target brand) and a little bit of anti-fungal cream. Then I cover it in aquaphor as a barrier. I also let her cruise around nekkid so her peach can air dry, but I understand that a sprinkler system *wink* might pose some issues with that.
As for his poops, when that happens I add a small amount of a live culture flora powder to her food in the morning. We use FloraBaby, and that can be found in all healthfood stores in the fridge section.
Hope that helps and that all bum issues are cleared up soon!

So you put the zinc cream on first and then the aquaphor?

Yup. Aquaphor acts as a barrier, so if you do that first, then the zinc cream and antifungal, it won't penetrate like you want it to.

it may be yeast... try some cornstarch powder... also milk of mag works wonderfully

You mean milk of mag as a topical? He sure doesn't need help pooping at this point!
