Link between WLS and getting pregnant with multiples?

Has anyone ever heard this?  I have no literature to back this info up with, but a friend of mine said that her doctor told her that there is a link.  If this is true, could it possibly be because the reproductive system hasn't been working correctly for a while as a result of obesity, and then hyper-ovulation occurs because of all the weight loss following surgery?  Hmmm.   I'm just curious about this, now that I think I have PCOS (will find out next month), and plan to have VSG done in December.  AND I want more babies :)

Forgot to add that I am researching and trying to find credible information.  Will post a link if I find any.

I don't think it really raises the rates statistically. I had twins 8 weeks ago following RNY two years ago. But I was on Clomid, as I have had to be in order to conceive. So, techically the Clomid is to blame in my situation, although I think it actually worked better when I was at a more normal weight, despite any potential malabsorption. I have been on clomid before and only had a single baby. I never have had PCOS, and I have always ovulated, even before RNY. I think what really happens is that you have a very small subset of the population with both PCOS and obesity. Some women are never able to get pregnant at all, and most have happy singletons! Good luck though.

Yeah - I don't think you are going to find much to support it.  I have been on here for 5 yearsish and I would say the twin rate is about the same as it is in the general public.  There are at least 4 of the sets of twins that were fertility treatment related.  I actually can only think of 2 sets that were not the result of help.

But, for most people, the likelihood of having ONE baby after surgery when they can't have them before, is REALLY high!

There is a link between larger/overweight mamas and fraternal multiples. http://www.webmd.com/baby/news/20050303/moms-obesity-makes-twins-more-likely

It could be that some WLS patients don't reach their goal and are still considered obese when they get pregnant... may that is what your doctor is seeing?

As far as I know there is no data linking WLS to multiples, either identical or fraternal.
