I met with my OB today (1st visit) and she said I should keep taking what I am taking till I see her again in too weeks...she felt that I don't need a prenatal because I am already taking the vitamins below but I seem suspsicious of that conclusion since I noticed prenatals contain more folic acid then the multivitamin that I currently take.  She also said that my vitamin levels will be watched more closely when she refers me to the pregnancy group at Kaiser that deals with gastric bypass patients. I told her I had the DS but I am unsure whether or not she understands how different my vitamin needs are.  What do you think?   Here is what I take...   Ferretts Iron Supplement (Ferrous Fumerate), 106mg Elemental, Gluten Free Tablet 60 tab/btl- 2-4 per day Calcium Citrate D contains d3 400 iu and 500 mg calcium citrate- for every 2 pills Multi enzyme probiotic- 1 day sublingual b-12 1 per day 2500 mcg Theragran M Premier 50 plus no Iron w /cOQ-10 250 mcg 1000 iu's vitamin D with Lutein and Lycopene- 1 day Levothyroid 100 mcg- 1 day Prilosec 1 day Tender D3- 50, 50,000 iu 2-4 per week Beano 1 day Zinc 50 mg 1-2 day

I had RNY, and my OB put me on PregVit5 because of the malabsorbtion issues. He felt the highter amounts of certain vits (esp folic acid and iron) would benefit me. So far so good.

I am a RNY'er too, but my OB had me take one extra multi vit (3 total - 2 in AM, 1 in PM). DS is 4.5 months old now and I am still taking the extra multi because I'm breast feeding.

Make sure your Dr. keeps an eye on your thyroid levels. It's very common for the levels to go out of whack from the pregnancy (non WLS related). My levo had to be adjusted a couple times during the pregnancy and it is especially out of whack 4.5 months after DS was born. I am having labs done every 6 weeks

I went and added up all the folic acid in my supps and made sure I was taking at least 3 times the recommended amount for pregnant ladies.  Twice as much would probably be enough but I felt better with more.  So I ended up taking two prenatals and one multi everyday, in addition to my calcium and ADEKs.

I'd up that D-3 to a daily dose. My D has dropped SO fast during this pregnancy. It went from a nice 47 to a 10 in 7 months and it's still dropping even though I'm taking 3000 MG's calcium and 200 K d-3 daily.
