Birth story err nightmare lol
How severe is your edema? (I'm in my last week of OB in nursing school right now) Edema is normal after delivery because your body does have to rid itself of a lot of fluid that was not only given to you during labor (did you have an IV? I'm sure you did...) anyway plus you still have the extra fluid from being pregnant. This fluid can take up to 2 weeks to go away...and you will notice that you're urine output will be going up.
So is your edema pitting? If you press your finger into it does it leave a mark? If so how how deep is the finger mark? How far up your leg does it go? You can help with RICE therapy. Rest, Ice, Compression & Elevate above your heart. If it's as severe as you say it is give your OB a call, see what he/she says.
Good luck and I'm glad you finally have your little girl in your arms!

Hey Kristy! Long time no see!!!
Where are you going to RN school at? I am getting ready to appy to Sacramento City, American River, and Sierra College up here. I am hoping it doesn't take too long to get in.
I am going to take your RICE therapy as my calves, ankles and feet are HORRIBLE!

OMG! Blanca my friend - I am so sorry you had to go through that! Yea.... natural childbirth - fun huh?? I am just sorry you had to do it without it being totally your choice, BUT be proud of yourself girl!! :)
Bella is BEAUTIFUL!!! She and Carter were close in size :) He was 6 lbs 7 oz - he weighed in at 6 lbs 2 oz this morning at his Dr Appt.
I have BAD edema this time too. My ankles and feet are HUGE! Seriously - my ankles are twice as big as the widest part of my foot! I don't know what to do. I had this happen with both the girls too.... I guess all I can do is watch my salt and hope for it to pass.
Congrats she is beautiful just like her Momma!

She is so cute.(Tiny too!). For your edema- its normal. With my first my legs, ankles, feet looked as big as my thigh...it would have impressions from anything that put pressure against it (pitting edema). It was painful too- but I watched for common signs of blood clots and kept somewhat active. My Dr told me that many woman that have pitocin react this way (I was swollen at the end of my pregnancy anyways). It took about 14-16 days and it just started coming out, I noticed I was in the bathroom all the time when it started letting up. Enjoy your buddle and speedy recovery!
