Well ladies i know i left you all hanging when i posted i had checked in to L&D for my induction last weds. Well Baby Bella Rosa N. was FINALLY born on Friday 7/16 @ 10:21pm. She weighed in at 6 lbs. 2 oz. (bigger than expected yay) and was 18 in long.
I was in labor for the first 12 hrs w/out drugs because i wanted to be able to get up and move around, especially wanted to be able to go to the restroom on my own for as long as possible, then accepted iv drugs to take the edge off...they more so made me loopy..didn't really stop the pain!
I had gone in KNOWING i was going to get an epi at some point and when they told me i was going to need a bulb inserted to help me dilate after progressing only 1/2 a cm in those 12 hrs i gladly accepted. I was scared of the pain of putting it in because she was still so high. Well it took and the next few hours were great, i got lots of rest and then i started to notice the epi running out on my left side only..ugh! well they tossed and turned me, shifted and moved me and when i just couldn't take the pain anymore they attempted a SECOND epi which completely failed after 20 minutes =(

I went on to actively labor for a total of 49 hours completely unmedicated and in the end was literally begging for someone to cut her out of me, thankfully i actually had a Dr who didn't jump at that opportunity and kept telling me NO and assuring me that he was going to get me through this!
I hated him for that at the moment, but now i cant thank him enough for not letting me give up!
Although Bella was so tiny, she gave me a 2nd degree tear front to back OUCH!
She needed a vacuum to help get her out, that thing was a Godsend even though because it was used i did get robbed of the immediate skin to skin bonding with her BUT got her no more then 2 minutes after they looked her over in the room.
She scored 8/9 on apgar and was as pink as a rose and needed no extra help from the neonatal team that was on standby just in case.
Everyone in the room knew how long I'd been there and of my two failed epis and when she finally came out they started cheering haha...that was too funny!
So to sum it up, I got the all natural labor i NEVER wanted haha and unless you really do "forget" the pain, Bella may just end up being an only child after all that!

** p.s. I am currently suffering from SEVER edema and it didn't show up until after leaving the hospital, should i report it? i ask because i keep hearing that its common and that the Dr cant really do anything about it, any truth to this? I'm thinking diuretics are out of the question because of breast feeding. Any suggestions on how to treat?! thanks in advance

Here she is:

She's lovely! Grats mama.

Re: the edema- I had it pretty bad after my twins were born. There isn't a lot you can do, it usually resolves itself within a couple weeks. Try to keep off your feet (elevate them if you can), stay hydrated and it should resolve itself soon. My doc said to call immediately if I had any pain (blood clot) or severe headaches.

((hugs))

Congrats! She is beautiful.

With the swelling, I had it really bad with my first. I was told it was from the meds, but drink your water and prop your feet up. I bought a home foot spa, and it helped the discomfort from the swelling.
