7 months post op and discovered I'm pregnant!!!!
OMG now what ! just discovered I am 5 weeks pregnant ( 3 tests can't be wrong ) and really concerned about gettting enough nutrition for both me and the baby ....wow this was totally unexpected as it my 1st pregnancy and I am almost 41 and had PCOS for years and told I was never likely to have my own children ( looked after other peoples for 23 years ) and never really thought about having them ......so feeling really strange but happy too if that makes sense
CONGRATS!!!! I had my surgery RNY about two weeks before you and I'm preggers too, so I share your same fears and happiness all at the same time. Good luck in this new journey and just concentrate on getting in the good calories and try to notify your NUT/Surgeon asap, so he or she can get you all the information you need about your nutrition, etc.. This forum helps provide a lot of valuable information and people are sharing in your experience.

Grats!
Recently there have been several of us VSG ladies with surprise pregnancies! Some earlier out than you even.
If you haven't already, call your WLS doctor and have them refer you to a nutritionist who has experience with post-WLS pregnancies.
As far as getting calories, you only need 100 extra calories for the first trimester and 200-300 extra for the last 2 trimesters to maintain a healthy pregnancy (500 extra calories for twins). Basically adding some extra peanut butter, cheese, nuts, full fat dairy, ect. My nutritionist also said to aim for 100g of carbs and 100g of protein each day to keep your body out of ketosis which can be really bad for the baby's brain and nervous system development.
Good luck. Thankfully we don't have malabsorption like some surgeries so it's easier for the baby to get everything it needs. My OB doesn't consider VSG patients high-risk, but does for DS and RNY mamas.

Congrats! I'm a surprise post-vsg mama-to-be too. I met with my surgeon and the nut and received some guidelines. They want me to consume 1700 calories a day so I'm constantly eating and trying to eat healthy, calorie-rich foods. Also, ask about your vitamin regiment and fluids. You need to watch you fluid intake carefully now. Congrats to you - this is such a blessing!
I started at 324lbs and a size 26. After losing 100 lbs, I became pregnant with my first daughter, who was born in March 2011. My second daughter was born in September 2013. I have maintained a healthy lifestyle and now hover around 160lbs. I would like to get back to the 140lbs before I became pregnant with my second daughter. The sleeve literally gave me LIFE - two beautiful, healthy little girls. My husband had his VSG with Dr. Marema on 10/1/2012 and is on his weight loss journey, currently down 90lbs.
I'm so glad I found this post. I think I'm pregnant (very faint line this morning) and I have no idea who to call first, what to eat, etc. I really like my OB so I'm going to give her a call in the morning and see what she suggests. As for the nutrition, I'll have to give him a call too or at least set up a meeting with the nutritionist soon.
Can any of you recommend what vitamins/supplements you're taking or took?
By the way I had VSG January 11th.
Thanks!
