New to Board

Hi everyone -

I am new to the board and wanted to say hello.  I have been only the MASS board only for the past 2 years and it is time to venture out!  I will be one year post op in October and hope to be pregnant in the fall.  I have an IUD - and met with my OB/GYN this week and discussed having it taken out in October.  We have 3 kids 7, 4 and 3 - and my original plan was to have them all close in age - but there was no safe way to rationalize it with how big I was and how high my blood pressure was and sleep apnea etc.  So now down 107 lbs and in the best physical shape of my life.

What advice do you have for being pregnant after WLS?  What are the differences as far as eating?  Is weight gain during and loss after an issue?  What are potential complications with the baby in WLS babies?  Terrified I will gain my weight back so just like with surgery I want to have my head 100% in the game.

Thanks everyone!

I ended up pregnant 9 months out from VSG with my IUD still in place... thankfully I'm almost at my goal  and both my surgeon and OB have been very supportive.

What surgery did you have?

There's data out there that babies born to mamas post-WLS are healthier than babies born to overweight mamas and if you hang around here, you'll see many happy post-op babies and mamas.

There is really no need to gain a ton when pregnant.. the "eating for 2" myth is a bunch of crap. You only need to consume 100 extra calories for the first trimester and 200-300 extra for the last 2 trimesters...and it can be a challenge at times to consume even that much.

((hugs)) goodluck!
