Birth Story
Thank you to everyone for all the well wishes and congrats! I am so IN LOVE with my son. He is absolutely adorable and I can't imagine my life without him - and it has only been a few days! :)
I went to my Dr Appt on Wed (7/14) in the AM. I was dialted to a 5, but still only 75%. Hubby the girls and I ran a few errands then went to walk around the mall. I was having contractions, about every 8 minutes and they were pretty strong when walking, but would die down a bit when at rest. I decided to stop by L&D on my way home just to see if they would keep me.....
When I got to L&D the RN checked me, I was still long and 5 cm. I was having small contractions, but nothing to write home about. The RN said, well I am going to go call your Doc. If she offers to break your water would you want that? I said ABSOLUTELY! I knew if my water were broken my labor would be fast. I just didn't want pitocin. So she calls my Doc (whom I LOVE) and came back to tell me that my Doc would be coming down to break my water! Yea!
Had the IV placed and had my water broken around 4:30 pm. I was then a 6. I labored the next few hours (in a zillion different positions), had IV meds and by 7 pm was ready to push.My RN came in and all I could say was I JUST WANT TO PUSH - PLEASE!!! LOL! I started pushing and Carter's heart rate dropped down to the 80s. I ended up delivering him on my left side with the oxegyn mask on. I only pushed for about 10 minutes - and it was not painful, but just so much pressure! His apgars were a 4/9. He had to have a little assistance when he first came out then pinked right up! They said it was likely that the combo of the IV drugs and having his heartrate drop a bit stunned him. He was 6 lbs 7 oz and 20 inches long.
My labor was a total of about 4 hours and I have no tears or stiches. I am so proud of myself for not getting an epidural. I had them with the girls and really tried so hard this time around. Trust me there were times I almost gave up, and it was really painful during the transition stage, but in the end I am so glad I did it this way and wouldn't change it for the world!
He is nursing like a champ and has only lost 3 oz. So far so good! Thank you again for all of the kind words - you ladies rock!
