Waking Up Choking: Mommy 6 days Post Birth
Greetings Bandsters,
I have a question that maybe some of you can help me with. Here goes. I reccently gave birth to my first baby (6 days ago to be exact) and since I have come home from the hospital I have woken up on three different occassions choking on what I think is my last meal or reflux. I wake up gasping for air and can taste the flavors of my last meal followed by a bad burning like feeling in my throat and a cough that follows. I ususally sit up right and cough until my throat clears. Is this reflux???
Has this happenend to you before? What should I do? Is it safe to take a medication such pecid or something stronger than TUMS to help with issue.
I would love to hear your thoughts. Please help!

I don't have any babies yet, and I'm not a bandster. But I am pretty sure I could say that is deffinatly reflux. That use to happen to me tons before I had gastric bypass. I use to pop TUMS like candy, and it never really helped.
I am sure someone here will have an answer for you though. Good Luck, and CONGRATS on the little bundle of joy ;)

Sounds like reflux - try sleeping with your head propped up a bit (2 pillows). I'd also call your surgeon and let them know just in case. It might be nothing but maybe your band slipped a little from the delivery or something - better safe then sorry! Especially since this is a new development. Oh and also try not eating 2 hours before bed.
I had to get an unfill in the hospital the day of my C section cause I was PBing water. They said the water that the body retains water after pregnancy caused my band to tighten like crazy. I'm not sure if that's the same in your case, but I'd definately call your doc cause it sounds like a slight unfill at least would be good.
That is definitely reflux and it sucks big time. Like the others posted, try propping yourself up, try not to eat at least two hours before bed, etc. I find that tums usually works but if the band is a little tighter from fluid, you may need to get a slight unfill until your body settles down. Congrats!!!
