HELP Anyone with a VSG and Pregnant

I just had VSG surgery 4 months ago and I'm 10 weeks pregnant. I feel so awful. I'm not vomiting but I'm EXTREMELY NAUSEA all the time. It's absolutley horrible. I feel like I have motion sickness all day everyday. My stomach feels like it's full of water or liquids, almost like I just drank 5 gallons of water at one time.

I'm never ever hungry because I always feel so bad, I have to force myself to eat. Eating is now a chore. Before I thought the doctor forgot to remove the ghrelin portion :) from my pouch but now I can definitely tell that it's been removed.

Will I ever feel normal again. I feel horrible always.  When I get home from work the first thing I want to do is lay down because then everything is still and not moving around. The first couple of weeks I didn't feel like this, I just wanted to taste everything. Now I almost hate food.

Please tell me that this will subside? Is this common for VSG'ers because of the tiny stomach?

Thanks

First of all, Relax.

There are many of us pregnant mamas here with VSG. Some years out from surgery, some only weeks/months out from surgery. Luckily VSG has no malabsorption to worry about, so chances are you won't be classified as "high risk" by your OB.

Is this your first pregnancy? What you're describing sounds like the classic early "joys" of pregnancy- Nausea and fatigue (some "lucky" ladies get constipation, heartburn and insomnia, so count yourself lucky if you don't have those). These usually ease up ~12-14 weeks.

I'm also hardly ever hungry. I force myself to eat something every 3 hours to keep the nausea at bay. Having something in your stomach really does help, especially a protein/carb combo like cheese and crackers or peanut butter.
Drinking plenty of water helps, too. If you get dehydrated, you'll feel the nausea even worse.

If you haven't already, go talk to your surgeon and have them refer you to a Nutritionist ASAP. Preferrably someone who has previous WLS/pregnancy patient experience. Work up an eating and vitamin plan to make sure you're getting everything you need for a healthy pregnancy.
You only need 100 extra calories a day for the first trimester and 200-300 extra for the last 2 trimesters to support a healthy pregnancy. My nutritionist also has me aiming for 100g of protein and 100g of carbs to keep my body out of ketosis (it's really baby for the baby's brain development).

((hugs))
Grats on the pregnancy. I wish you a healthy and happy 9 months!

OMG LSU tigergirl, the hearburn is the worse.

Just put a match next to my chest and it will automatically light. Sometimes I think I'm flammable.  OMG the heartburn is going to kill me. I eat Pepcid's like tic tac's.

No this isn't my first child (3rd) but the first two I never felt like this before. This time it's 1000000x's worse. I'm dying inside.

Yikes!
That does sound awful!

I have noticed my nausea and heartburn are worse this pregnancy (pregnancy #2, baby #3- first was twins). I really think my tiny tummy has something to do with it but others here have disagreed. i know every pregnancy is different, but man.... I can't wait until the second trimester. I need some relief. lol

I was only 4 months post op-VSG, when I found out that I was pregnant. I had a ton of nausea from my surgery. I was taking Zofran 3 times a day, Pepcid complete twice a day, & gas X strips with every meal. I had to get IV fluids 3 times in my first 3 months post-op due to dehydration. So, I was freaking out, when I found out that I was pregnant. It really does get better. I still cannot get anywhere near the amount of fluids in a day that others on this board do. If I drink too much, I throw up. If I drink too often, I'm too full to eat. So, there's a very fine line that I balance on. It is do-able. Keeping something on your stomach will definitely help the nausea. Peanut Butter crackers are my stand by. I keep them with me at all times. Ask your Dr. about Zofran ODT for nausea. It dissolves under your tongue. So, you don't have to "keep it down". Gas X quick dissolve strips help with that full/bloated feeling. I felt just like you...miserable. I hope this helps : )

I'm 9 months out and not experiencing any real pregnancy symptoms yet, but I hope you feel better! I'm forcing myself to eat about every 3 hours and drink a lot too. It's like I'm just out of surgery trying to relearn a routine again. But it's all worth it for our precious little ones.

I started at 324lbs and a size 26.  After losing 100 lbs, I became pregnant with my first daughter, who was born in March 2011.  My second daughter was born in September 2013.  I have maintained a healthy lifestyle and now hover around 160lbs.  I would like to get back to the 140lbs before I became pregnant with my second daughter.  The sleeve literally gave me LIFE - two beautiful, healthy little girls.  My husband had his VSG with Dr. Marema on 10/1/2012 and is on his weight loss journey, currently down 90lbs.

I am 2 yrs out and 10 weeks prego! I do not throw up but I get some nausea especially if I dont eat. I do get hungry every two hours I have to eat something or I get sick. I was worried I am not able to eat enough for me and the baby but my appt is next week and I have gained 3 pounds so far which freaks me out. I spent two years taking the weight off and three pounds in 10 weeks seems like too much. I just want a healthy baby and I will deal with the weight later.

Everyone says it will get better but everyone is different. Eat small portions of protein when ever you can!
