Cradle cap anyone?
Hey everyone,
Jakob and I are doing well. He will be 3 mos. old tomorrow. He is going through some issues with eczema and cradle cap. His eczema seems to do okay with just the pretroleum jelly. The cradle cap is horrible he is shedding everywhere. I have added the petroleum jelly, baby oil, shampoo and scrubbed but the next day its back in force. I plan to call his ped. but I thought I see if you guys had this problem and how it worked out for you. Thanks in advance.

We have our miracle: Jakob Makhi born 4-15-10; 4 lbs. 10 oz. 22" long.
I found when i STOPPED crying to get rid of the cradle cap, it went away. I just brushed his hair more often. It typically goes away on it's own as the baby's hormones level out. I think it was completely gone by 4-5 months. My niece is almost a year old and she still has some, and they use a Rx on it.
i wouldn't use the vaseline though.. cradle cap is an oily excretion that crusts over. The best is to just lubricate it with baby oil and then brush out.

Glad you and Jakob are doing alright. Sorry you're having this issue... I went through this with Jade. I bought Gentle Naturals Cradle Cap Shampoo from Target and it seemed to work well. I'd put some on her scalp and use her brush to get the flakes up (not the comb because baby combs have sharp ends for some reason lol). The only thing about this product is that it was oily so I had to use her other shampoo to rinse her hair a little more. I was like you though, I called my sister the next day and told her that it was right back. She told me that if was a one-times-use-and-it-disappeared product then they wouldn't sell you a whole bottle of it! LOL Once I thought about it she was right... whatever remedy you decide to use you'll have to do it several days in a row, maybe even a week, before you'll see results. HTH
Chavon,
I had both those issues with my son Tyler as a baby and I used for the cradle cap this stuff I got at Wal-Mart called "Gentle Naturals Disney Baby Cradle Cap Care" lotion. It worked GREAT! I mean I tried everything prior to using that and it just looked god awful..he had it bad. Tyler still suffers from Excema and he's now 3 years old, but the cradle cap was cured by using that lotion. Good luck in finding something that will help.

Both my twins had cradle cap. Their doctor suggested rubbing baby oil into their hair, letting it absorb for a few minutes and loosen the dry bits, then gently brush out with a soft bristle baby brush, followed with a gentle baby shampoo intended for cradle cap (they sell it at wal-mart, forgot the name).
It took a few times, but it was completely cleared within a few weeks.

Thanks everyone for your experiences. I will look for the cradle cap shampoo/lotion at Walmart/target. As for the bathing the docs said with the eczema it is dry skin and the more you wash away the oil from his skin the worse the eczema will be. (I wanted to bathe him every day because of the flakes from his head and the dry skin coming off from all around) His skin is looking real good, but I'm still working on the head.

Sage has sebboric dermatitis which is essentially cradle cap on the face. Dr recommended cordaid cream, 1% cleared right up!
