How many months of trying before asking for Clomid?

We are wanting to get pregnant soon. It's just the right time. We are on month 2 but I'm just wondering how many months did you try naturally before asking for Clomid? or any help from the Doctor?

I know my gyno did offer to help if in a "few" months we were not successful, or when we were ready for help.

Usually it depends on your age. If you're older, like maybe 35 or older, they may give it to you after trying for 6 months unsuccessfully to get pregnant. But if you're younger than that they usually will not do any type of intervention until you've been trying for at least a year to get pregnant without success.

The first time we tried for 8 months to get pregnant. The doctor did some test and a biopsy. Month 9 he gave me clomid and I got pregnant.

This time around, I had my IUD taken out early April and the doctor actually called me in Clomid at the beginning of this month at my request. But that may be because of my past history.

Anything is possible  :-)
Good luck!!!

Well before I had my WLS my Specialist wanted me and hubby to try a full year before putting me on Clomid. We went a year without getting pregnant and I tried Clomid for 3 months and got pregnant...and at 6 weeks along I had a miscarriage. Then a few months later I had my WLS...I was trying before my surgery and if I had gotten pregnant then surgery would have wanted a little longer. However I miscarried and stopped and figured that it was twice now I miscarried that it must be because I was Super morbidly obese and that was why I could not carry. Had WLS June 17th, 2009 well over a year ago. Found out 4 weeks ago I am pregnant!!! We did excellant the first year of me not trying to get pregnant due to I cannot use Birth Control because it triggers High Blood Pressure. And husband is allergic to condoms..how nice right. SO what I did was keep track of my periods and knew when I was ovulating and made sure we did not have sex those days. Needless to say we must of had sex on one of those days cause things have been busy lately and I was shocked to find out I was pregnant cause we did good for a whole year. What I would suggest is keep track of your periods on mymonthlycycles.com and pay attention to your most fertile days. I use that website and have been for 3 years. Give that a try and see if that works..Best of luck to you!

I was placed on Clomid with my first child after trying for only three months due to irregular periods and I was advised I wasn't ovulating. I really was agressive with my approach to not wasting time for a year TTC and not doing proper testing to ensure all my plumbing was working. It's all about your OB/GYNs approach. I think it's naive of doctors to make someone try for a year only to find out they had blocked tubes. Take charge of your desire for pregnancy and demand to have an HSG test, check progestrone levels after ovulation to make sure ovulation even took place. I wasn't wasting that time, so I was diagnosed with Uterine Fibroids and blocked tubes after getting an HSG test after 6 months of failed attempts on Clomid...Now don't you think if they would have checked my plumbing first I wouldn't have wasted 6 months. Needless to say after removal of the fibroids I got pregnant the next month,,,,no clomid needed.

Push for testing...don't wait for several months to pass you by...lifes too short...Just cause you look and feel healthy and have a normal period doesn't mean something is not wrong. Ask for a "Fertility Workup". They test everything that effects your ability to reproduce.

After 11 months of not trying to get pregnant and also not doing anything to prevent pregnancy, I saw the OBGYN and told him I wanted Clomid.  He wanted to run some tests before putting me on it. I did one of the four tests he ordered and never went on the drugs because I got pregnant all on my own in between tests... As Allie pointed out, your doc's willingness to prescribe Clomid or other fertility drugs may depend on your age and overall health.. Good luck!

We started trying on our own in June of 2009, had a MC at 11 weeks in Nov. 2009, never had any type of "normal" cycle after and was given Clomid June of this year and now we are PG! So, I guess a year or less depending on how you look at it. Oh, and i'm "older" @ 35.  ;-)
