Being on metformin and wanting to get pregnant

I was wondering if anyone was put on metformin after surgery. My bf and I are wanting to get pregnant once I hitm y 18 month mark. I recently had an appointment with me female doctor and she put me back on metformin.
Just wondering if anyone else has been on metformin before.  And if I have PCOS and never know when or if I will have a period if I can get pregnant

I have PCOS and also took Metformin, am actually on it again now. When I conceived my son in addition to other meds I actually had swtiched to Avandia because Metformin made me ill, but we know the hooplah with Avandia now. However, they now have a time released Metformin and that has helped a lot!

I take 500mg in the morning and 500mg at night... as long as i make sure I take it with food im good. if not it makes me sick. Is Avandia the same as metformin?

I am not sure about same, but yes, used for same thing in terms of diabetes treatment. My specialist had said it showed better results for some TTC, but is has now been up for debate due to studies showing it causes heart damage so was pulled in some markets.

I had PCOS really bad and was told that Metformin actually helps you ovulate. Since I dropped all the weight I am fine. Got pregnant on my own.

KAthy that is great news. I still do not have regular periods i did for the first 3 months after surgery but haven't since so that why my doctor put me back on metformin. the first week I was on it I had a period...so hopefully this will help.

I honestly don't know if the Metformin ever really helped since they also put me on the pill. I was on the pill until we decided to get pregnant and no problems.

My doctor wont let me on the pill since I haven't reach my goal weight and he is afraid that I will gain weight with being on the pill. so he suggested i try metformin again.

Every doctor is different. My surgeon wants us on two forms of birth control and says that the pill and condoms are his choices.

Hello, I was on metphormin prior to surgery, and I was able to concieve my first child within in 3 months of using it. My periods were regular once I was put on it though, still really long cycles, so it was hard to chart. We just tried to do the deed every other day..LOL It worked, good luck I hope it works well for you! Now that I have had surgery, I still have long cycles, but was able to concieve on my own.
