I am very nervous about the glucose test, just wondering how everyone did? I had talked to the Dr. about it, and they said I still have to do the test. I am just worried that I will be very sick afterwords, any advice?

My surgeons office told me absoluletly NO to the glucose test. They only auhtorized a fasting glucose and if that came back high they'd figure something out but when I took it at 12 weeks my fasting was 71 and my OB said that was fine to not take it.

I had my 1 hour glucose tolerance test yesterday very very reluctantly, almost afraid of what was going to happen, but I guzzled the orange ick down and I had absolutely no reaction.  Normally I would probably dump like crazy.  My perinatologist told me it's a different type of sugar than we normally consume so I wouldn't have the same reaction.  She was right, very odd!  I had that option or the option to come to the hospital lab twice a week for 3-4 weeks for fasting blood sugars, but that is very inconvenient for me, so I opted to take the risk.

When I did mine, I drank the stuff rather quickly - I was thirsty and it was ice cold so that helped.. I experienced no dumping whatsover and my glucose levels came back within normal range. My advice is to just drink it quick, get it over with and perhaps warn them that you may experience discomfort due to gastric bypass surgery and might need to lay down - a lot of labs have rooms with beds so they hopefully can accomodate you..

Good luck!

I put my foot down and said no way. I am now going crazy waiting until I can go in for fasting blood work to check that and my A1C.
