When should I change eating habits??

So obviously I went off the RNY eating habits when I got pregnant.  I had to increase calories....blah blah blah...

Well now I am breastfeeding (quite sucessfully I might add), and I want to continue as long as Claudia and I can do it.  I have been told by the pedi that I must maintain 2300 calories to keep her in good supply, but I want to get off all the baby weight so I know that I need to do a post op diet to get it off.. (was gonna try a 5DPT).  I know that is prob a bit extreme and wouldnt allow me enough calories to keep up the milk supply.

Should I just wait until after the breast feeding stops then pick back or should I try something now?  I dont eat a lot of junk.  I dont go strict by the no carbs, no sugars, no fats rule either...

I eat pretty much a normal diet (even fast food from time to time) but small portions (usually no more than 6-8 ozs total) I dont eat and drink within 30 mins of each other, and my absorption of vitamins and things is fantastic without a daily supplement. (I do take them though because of the BF)

Please leave suggestions, and I know a lot of people tend to get ugly about some things, so can we keep things on a positive.  I love to have corrective critisim but bashing me isnt going to help.

Thanks ladies!!

IMO>>>

I would say just eat healthy I dropped weight while bf....just make good choices and cut out the junk....i don't think i would do the 5dpt. but thats just me. and drink lots of water. bf isnt forever and right now supplying her with the best nutrition possible is your num 1 goal....so exercise (when you can again) and eat right. :)

A good article. You burn a lot of calories breast feeding. Add in a bit of exercise and make sure to drop the junk and you should do fine. Shari

Hi there ...
I thinks it's prolly a good idea to begin cutting out the things you needed to add in while carrying Claudia, but (even thought I wasn't successful at breastfeeding0) I know the best thing you can do for your milk (in addition to a healthy diet, obviously) is TONS of water .Like, more water than you ever wanted to drink. lol ...good luck!

I think that if you continue to BF, drink enough water, and just cut out 1 thing (I would say sugar/simple carbs would be the #1 culprit)...  I think you can continue to steadily lose weight while BFing, and it will not affect your supply or your energy.

I would wait though to do any type of extreme weight loss program.
