baby burping and naps
2 questions for you wonderful ladies
1) How much should a 7 week old sleep? Most days Amelia will only take a 3 hour nap around lunchtime. She sleeps then from about 9pm to 6am just getting up to eat back to bed
2) burping - if she is asleep she doesn't burp - is this normal? The Dr didn't seem concerned and she doesn't spit up as a result. If she is awake she always burps after her 4oz of formula and most of the time 1/2 way through.
Thanks!

1. With my son Tyler he was a big baby (9lbs and 6oz) so he slept all day and I had the same concern about feeding. The doctor stated don't let him sleep over 4 hours without a feeding. I had to wake Tyler up for feedings and I didn't let him sleep more than 4 hours.
2. Are you stating she falls asleep right after feedings but before you can burp her? If so, your baby may feel a little uncomfortable if she swallows a lot of air during feedings. Burping helps her to expel some of the air that she swallows. If she hasn't been waking up with gas pains, etc...then she's fine. Just like the doc indicated.

Sounds to me like she is doing just fine in the sleeping department! As she gets bigger her scheudal might change to two shorter naps, but the one long nap is pretty typical at that age. For the burping, I would say if she isn't waking up crying or showing signs of having gas pain, then she is probably ok!
She is so cute, I just loving seeing your avatar pop up on threads b/c it makes me smile every time!
I have read that baby will sleep as much as she needs to. Most "normal" babies sleep about 18 hours a day in the 1st year and 12 hrs a day up to age 5. They did mention that some babies sleep less or more and not to worry if your baby isn't "normal" lol!
In regards to the burping - you may just have really good bottles and a good eater so she doesn't get a bunch of air when she eats. Annie burps most of the time but never spits up from the air or even if she doesn't burp but that is pretty common w/ bf babies, they tend to get a LOT less air. If she isn't spitting up or getting fussy from the gas I don't think you have to worry.

Hey, can't believe Amelia is 7 weeks already. As far as your questions go Jackson took two 2hr naps a day until he was 2 and still takes a 2-3 hr nap in the afternoon at the age of 3 1/2. Around 8 weeks I think he hit a point where he didn't want to sleep much but I just put him in his bed for a nap or quiet time anyway and in no time he was back on schedule. And for burping, if it doesn't bother her I wouldn't worry. It will come out one way or another and she may just pass some gas in her sleep.
