New Here - Lap Band and Pregnancy

Hi All - New to the pregnancy boards.  I am almost 29 weeks pregnant with our first child.  With the help of the lap band, my surgeon and my OB we have kept my restriction pretty high and the weight gain to a minimum.  Just wondering with how big this kid is getting if it affects my restriction.  Over the last week or so (keep in mind it has been hot and humid here) I have not been able to get very much down.  Unless I add liquid calories, I am about 1000-1200 calories.  I will probably go in for an adjustment but wondering if the baby and the humidity is causing the extra tightness?  I usually got pretty tight with my period so I guess it wouldn't surprise me.  Just wondering what everyone else's experience has been.

No experience with the band, but I wanted to say Welcome and Grats!

Do you know if you're having a boy/girl/ surprise?

Hi!  I also have a lap-band, but I'm not nearly as far along; 10 weeks on Saturday.  Even before I got pregnant, I noticed that extreme heat definitely caused my band to feel tighter.  Plus, when it's hot, I didn't really want to eat anything anyway, except for maybe ice cold fruit and popsicles.

I have heard that when the baby gets bigger, he'll definitely affect how tight your band feels.  So, if you're having difficulty eating, it might not be a bad idea to have a little fluid taken out.  So far, I haven't needed to do that because I haven't had any real nausea, and I can still fit into my small sizes without feeling like I'm gonna bust out of them. :)

There are a ton of band moms on here... hopefully they will weigh in with their experience.  Congratulations, and I'll look forward to reading all about your adventures so I know what I can expect. ;)

I kept around 6 cc's in a 10 cc band throughout my pregnancy and didn't have any issues until I was around where you are in the pregnancy, then it was very tempermental. Some days it was really tight and I couldn't keep anything down and others I could eat like crazy. Usually the mornings were always tight but sometimes even liquids took awhile to go down. I had a scheduled C section and right after I could not keep anything down, I was PBing water, so my doc came in and unfilled me. I thought my baby was huge too, but she was only 7 lbs 5 oz. That would have made more since to me that she could have been pushing on my stomach making it hard to eat but they think the reason my band was so tempermental during pregnancy and after my C section was due to water retention and the way my body was holding onto water.

Well, I decided to schedule an appointment for Friday to have a "titch" taken out to see if that helps.  Of course, I could eat dinner last night without any problem but this morning we are back to not being able to get coffee down.  Fun stuff!!!!

I had a little taken out during my morning sickness phase and then had it put back in. So much can affect how your band feels, like water retention 9which can get worse as your pregnancy progresses). Toward the end of mine, I honestly felt like I could have emptied my band totally and it wouldn't allow me to eat anymore - it just felt like there was no more room in my body for anything else.

I did have some taken out in the beginning too for morning sickness and put back in and have been very happy with my restriction for 4 months.  I hate to mess with it because I have done so well, but when I can't even get three or four bites down I kinda feel like it needs to be tweeked.  I don't want to be able to go to a buffet (PUKE!) but want to be able to eat my 1/2 cup to a cup.

Does it ease up later in the day or does it stay tight all day?

Most days it eases only slightly, if I can't get coffee down in the morning, you know its going to be one of "those days."  Yesterday it eased up a lot and I was fine last night.  Go figure!
