low blood sugar?
a week before I found out I was pregnant, I have been feeling like my sugar is dropping. I get really hot, shaky and I feel sick. Plus it feels like my heart is beating 2x's as hard. I know I am not eating as much as I should because the morning sickness is so bad. Have any of you had this problem, and if so, how did you get over it? This is happening way to much, and it is very scary, because I know that eating protein is the best thing, but sense I cannot eat and if I do, I feel so sick as soon as I start eating, that I cannot get enough to help.
Thanks

I've dealt with this for years, and with this pregnancy it's even worse. If eating really makes you sick, try drinking either protein shakes, milk or something with calories. The way to "treat" it is to avoid the problem by eating frequently. The best thing to do when your sugar starts dropping is to eat both a good protein source and a complex carb at the same time. The carb will bring your sugar up quicker and the protein will keep it up longer.
I also keep glucose tabs in my purse as I've almost blacked out a couple of times. You can get them at Walmart, etc, and each tab has 4 g of sugar, so unless you are an extreme dumper (sorry I didn't notice what surgery you had), they shouldn't cause a dump but can be a life saver in an emergency. I also carry a small grocery store around in my purse. LOL, peanut butter crackers, cheese sticks, etc just to make sure I have something when I'm out and about in case it sneaks up on me.

I had this really badly during my pregnancy too. I always kept some M&Ms in my purse. It always seemed to happen when I was standing in line (at the grocery store, walmart etc). I also kept a vitamin water in my purse. I agree with the other ladies, I had to eat every 2 hours, even if it was 2 crackers and a piece of cheese. I had horrible morning sickness and someone suggested oyster crackers - eat a few every 1/2 hour or so and that will help. You might be surprised that you'll feel better if you have food in your pouch. Have a few saltines before you even get out of bed in the morning and keep on eating.
Oh yea and altoids - they were a god send for me.

I have been dealing with the low blood sugar as well and it sucks!! I had it with my daughter and now with this one. The advice given by others is perfect. You just need to find a good combination that works for you. Maybe an apple and some peanut butter? Banana and peanut butter? Handful of peanut M&Ms. Anything that can get you out of the shaky stage and hold you just long enough to eat something that your body needs, protein. I hope it gets better for you soon.

I am dealing with this as well. I laughed at Liz's post about it always happening when standing in line because that's exactly what happens to me. I almost passed out one day in line at Bealls. But the doctor told me what everyone else has said. Make sure to eat every two hours and try to eat a protein and a complex carb. I was supposed to do my blood work fasting for my surgeons office and had to call them to get permission to not fast because it makes me so sick. I even have to get up in the middle of the night and eat. I truly think that this is why I've started to gain more weight as well. Maybe there is a reason. But you should be good, just keep something with you at all times. Good Luck.
