Hi guys,

I'm not big on name brand this or that but I am very cautious with making changes to anything with Jakob. My husband saw in Walmart that they have a generic brand of formula (Parent's Choice) The ingredients compare well to the Enfamil Prosobee we are using and he thinks because its half priced we should switch. I'm nervous about doing anything different, but the label does look exactly the same...any thoughts???

I don't know how much the formula has changed since I used it with my daughter in 2000, but I did try that formula thinking the same thing and she did not do well with it all....major diarrhea and it was just terrible so I switched her back to Enfamil and she was fine.  I think sometimes it's best to stick with the brand names when it comes to formula, but as I said, I'm not sure if it's changed since that was 10 yrs ago.

Formula must meet standards that are set by the FDA, so there is no danger that something will be lacking in a non-name brand. We used Parent's Choice for most of the first year with the triplets, and never had a problem with it.

I did start off on the name brand formula for my first but soon found they were all the same.  We used generic for both of our kids and never had a problem.  It's so much cheaper and it's all the same.

I think it depends on the baby- my first could not do generic- we tried! One of my twins now can do any type and has no problems. I would say at least give it a shot- it's great to save money and if it works, then even better! They are all regulated, so the nutrition is the same. WIth my first, I could only do Enfamil, she could not even handle the same type of formula in the Similac brand she was so sensitive. So, it wasn't really a name brand thing, just her little system. Good luck! I know it;s hard thinking about, but I would really give it a shot.

I think that it definitely depends on the baby.  We started out using Enfamil and that didn't settle well.  We tried to give baby girl the Costco brand formula, but it didn't settle well on her stomache either.  She has been on the Gerber Goodstart Gentle since about 6 weeks and she is 14 week now and it has worked great.

Again, it just depends on the baby.  I wish that we could have used the Costco brand because it costs at least %60 less.  All you can do it try it.

Take care,
