I had my surgery in Sept 09, so like 9 months ago.  I'm not quite to my goal, but past my doctors goal.  Anyway I'm very interested in having a Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) done.  When I saw my doctor at 6 months he told me that my insurance will cover it and that there is a doctor that will do it at the same hospital (Military.)  I think it will make me feel like I've really truly made a change and lost the weight to have the extra skin there gone.  My question is has anyone had it done before having another baby.  I have a 3 year old now and I'm on and off about having more kids.  Some days she is more than enough and others I would like another one or two.  I plan to wait until I'm 1.5 or 2 years post surgery to try.  I would like to have the tummy tuck sooner though.  I have heard of people having it done and then getting pregnant after.  I was just wondering if anyone has personal experience with it.  I'd hate to have it done and then have lots of saggy skin again after a pregnancy, but I also don't want to put it off and then find that my insurance won't cover it down the road.

Tracy, I did! I had my surgery in 2007 and last year, I decided I wanted a tummy tuck. I even paid out of pocket. I was just tired of being right there with my size goal - Size 8-10 but having to wear 12s becuase of the skin around the belly and not being able to tuck my shirt in etc. I decided, after long talks with my hubby, that I wanted that one summer, if nothing else, to feel absolutely great about my body. And I did. I had a wonderful year and I am rpegnant now. I don't regret my decision. I might have some sag after the pregnancy but most probably it won't be as bad as after losing a 100 lbs!

Good luck with the decision!

I did too. I had lost 170 pounds, knew I wanted kids soon but also knew I wouldn't be able to afford a tummy tuck once we had kids. So I planned the tummy tuck 18 months post-op RNY, and my PS asked me to wait 3 months after the tummy tuck before getting pregnant.

3 months after the tummy tuck I did get pregnant. For me I was so self consious about my belly and the extra skin that this has been a blessing. I love being able to let my sisters feel my belly and not want to die of embarrassment. Granted no one should feel that way, but I did before my tummy tuck.

I hope it bounces back well, and if it doesn't bounce back perfectly it can't be as bad as the 180 pound loss was on my body. It is a personal decision and only you can make it.
RNY 5/2008 180 pounds lost from highest weight.   TT and arms done 12/2009

I had a tummy tuck done by the military post WLS and am now pregnant.  My doctor said that this pregnancy will be just like my first one.

I would say get it done!!!!  Just because with the military it is so iffy.  My surgeon that would do tummy tucks stopped two months after doing mine because the main surgeon in the hospital got called away and he no longer had time to do surgeries that were not important.  So with the miliary I have learned you get it done when you can.  Dont wait.
