i'm sure this topic has been posted a million times, but I am new to this forum and wanted to get some advice/info...

how long after WLS did you'all wait before getting preggo?  I know the recommended is 15-13 months post op.

I'm scheduled for RNY July 22nd and can't wait to start a family with hubby, so I'm trying to get a realistic idea of our baby-makin time frame.

thanks for sharing!!!!

I think that seems to be pretty accurate!  Every surgeon has different specifications, but it seems that 1.5-2 years is about the norm.  I have seen people get pregnant in less than a year, though, and they have been fine.

Best of luck with your upcoming surgery!  How exciting!

18-24 months was my doc's suggestion.

However we had a surprise at only 8 months post-op and I know there have been several women who had "surprises" much earlier post-op.

WLS makes you super fertile! Double up on protection. I had an IUD in place and still got pregnant (not saying the WLS caused my IUD failure).

we started trying at 14 months out, and I was pregnant at 17 months out. Good luck with your surgery and baby-making (in the distant future!)

I was cleared at my year appt weight loss wise. I was passing out and having dizzy spells and was told to see a cardiologist and get clearance from her. I got pregnant in June of '09 almost 1 1/2 years post op and loss that one. I am not pregnant and got pregnant almost 2 years to the day after my surgery. (Surgery was 1-15-08 and started getting sick on 1-22-10). Most surgeons will give a general guideline of 18 months.

My surgeon said 18-24 months.  Two forms of birth control until then.
