Well it's time to introduce myself...
Hello, my name is Heather and I had gastric bypass on 9/18/08 and it was the BEST decision ever! I have lost 112 pounds so far and still losing some. Going from being uncomfortable all the time, using my asthma inhaler all the time and wearing a *tight* size 28 to having way more energy, no more asthma and a size 12 is amazing. My husband and I have been married for over 4 years and we have a 3 year old daughter named Avery. I am lucky to be able to stay at home with her now (just recently moved to Colorado and husband got a promotion) and I am loving every minute of it. Ok, now onto the good stuff...Well after a long and confusing week, I FINALLY got confirmation today that I am pregnant! My period was 8 days late and for some reason I was only getting negative HPTs and then finally I went in this morning and had a blood test done and they called me 2 hours later to tell me it was positive! I went out and bought 2 tests and took them just to reassure myself (I know weird but I wanted to see for myself!) They say my EDD is 2/27 and I am just over the moon! I do have a few questions though. With my daughter, I only gained 10 pounds and it was generally a really easy pregnancy. Is there anything I should be prepared for this time around since I had gastric bypass. I am already adding a prenatal to my vitamin regimen and more protein. Anything else? Anything suggested would be much appreciated! THANKS!
Just wanted to say congrats to you :) I know that my OB told me that 1) I shouldn't get heartburn since I was "rerouted" as he would say, 2) that my iron changes faster then some of his "normal" patients 3) more folic acid then SOME women, 4) That if your OB has dealt with some other WLS patients they will know what to look for in your CBCs and all... and finally he said to just take it easy and relax. This is my first pregnancy, we had been TTC for 13 YEARS... so we were quite panicky at first LOL...
Take care and Congrats again :)

Congratulations and welcome! I had RNY about a month after you and I totally feel the same was as you, that it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
One really important thing is to make sure you are getting enough carbs. I know it's wierd going from eating barely any carbs to eating a bunch (I think you need 100 grams a day) but it is important for your body not to be in ketosis (which is very bad for the baby). The poster before me said her doc said she wouldn't get heartburn...well, I get it so I am not sure that's entirely true, but the HB isn't too bad.
Good luck ! I hope to see you around here a lot. There are great ladies on this board with some great advice. BTW, where do you live in CO? I lived there for 7 years.

Mommy to 2 of the most beauiful little girls in the whole universe and still in love with my hubby of 8 years. LIFE IS GOOD!
Heather,
Just wanted to say welcome and congrats!! I had gastric bypass Aug 2005 and am pregnant with my first (and last). I think my pregnancy is going pretty much like someone who has never had surgery. I just take my vitamins and try to get plenty of protein, which isn't hard since I crave beef jerky!! LOL
Sounds like you are on the right trac****il you can visit with your OB/GYN. Mine is just treating me like anyone else. Of course, I'm 3 years further out than you are.
As far as heartburn. I get it bad!! I never had heartburn until I got pregnant. Now it seems like I can eat a piece of bread and get it!! makes no sense. But it goes away easy with some Tums. Not a big deal.
Best wishes,
Kina

Thank you so much for all of the responses. I meet with the Dr. on the 19th so I will check in with her then to see if I need to change/edit anything.
As for where in CO, I live in Littleton (outside of Denver, about 20-30 minutes from the airport) I LOVE it here and I am so glad we moved out here. I am still a Californhia Girl through and through but I think I am slowly making the transition to Colorado.
