It's quiet in here! (Middle Finger Picture Included)
People must all be enjoying summer and not sitting on the computer (this is a good thing) because it's quiet in here!
So I had Cooper's 1 year doctors visit and as expected they poo-pooed my worry about his lack of words. We saw a new doc from the group and she said her now-very-talkative-4-year-old-boy wasn't saying any words at 1 year either. She said to wait until 15 months and if we didn't see any words then to evaluate him.
I asked about early intervention and she said to qualify he'd have to have at least a 30% delay and she could tell he was no where close to that since he hits all other language markers.
Is "uh oh" a word? I *think* he's really close to saying it.... it sounds like sometimes he intends to say it. At this point I'll take what I can get!
He was officially 29.8 lbs and 31.5 inches putting him in the 97th/95th percentiles. (His 3.5 year old cousin weighs less than him!)
Of course he still doesn't sleep through the night. We're working on some "training" in that regard and if I'm successful you'll hear me shouting from the rooftops and I'm sure it will reach ya'all throughout the country. (Although mommy will miss the night time cuddles!)
Well that's the Cooper update. I am trying to convince my husband we need another sooner rather than later (his plan is in 5 year when/if he gets his new kidney)! I told him my biological clock is ticking and a 6 year gap in kids isn't having a true "sibling" for Cooper.
Yesterday he gave me his first "bird" since being a year old! (First one in 6 weeks!)

This one cracks me up.... he knows the mirror is there and he plays peek-a-boo with the boy in the mirror!

And here is he showing off his large-butt. (He's wearing a night time diaper since he's supposed to be getting ready for bed, not pulling out all his toys.) My son has a very shapely tush. I just hope the porportion of thighs/tush go down a bit when he starts walking. For now I love his big legs and butt!

Take Care Everyone!

You know, my hubby and step-sister were only children and so they both didn't want to have one child. My hubby would like to have another one for our son (when he gets here) to have a playmate/partner in crime! So, I can understand your feelings on the age gap.
So good to hear from you!

He is so darn cute! I have a seven year age gap between my kids, and while it is nice, I don't think I would have choosen to do it this way. The big kids are a great help to me, but I just don't see them having as tight a relationship with Matty as I would like b/c of the age difference.
Oh and on the EI, I would call anyway, but that's just me and I am pushy about stuff like this b/c I trust my mommy gut over anything else. If your gut is telling you that it's ok to wait, then wait, but if your gut is telling you something different I say listen to it!
Cooper is so cute...I LOVE his little dimples. It's funny he's busy digging his toys out when he is supposed to be heading to bed. With a smile like that...he knows he can't get in trouble.
I don't know re the talking. I'm trying to think how much my son was saying at one...and I don't recall a lot. He was pulling himself up and would walk around holding the couch...but he didn't crawl until he was 9 months old...didn't get any teeth until three weeks before his first birthday - and then six came in at once...NEVER held his bottle. I know by 1 1/2 he was saying quite a bit...we had a Ford Taurus that looked almost exactly like a Mercury Sable...our car was named Maggie...and by 1 1/2 years old, when we'd go down the street w/him in his stroller...we had to stop and 'touch a Maggie' and touch every single Ford Taurus - wagon or sedan, he didn't care - that we found...but he knew the difference just from looking between the Taurus and the Sable...and never even mixed up w/a Ford Tempo and a Taurus.
I'm sure Cooper will start jabbering soon - but if you feel it necessary to get a second opinion, at least for your own comfort...then do. It's not going to HURT to get a second opinion...and if he does need help...it will get it started earlier.
Re #2...I'm with you. My son is an only child...15 years old...and when/if we do ever get another one...that one would pretty much be growing up an only child too. I wish I'd have had more, closer together, but delayed for many reasons...money and my weight being the top two...something I'll always regret.

I wouldn't worry to much about the talking every baby do things at different times...seriously enjoy it because once they stop they NEVER stop :-)
I am glad to know that Lucas isn't the only one still not sleeping through the night...how often does Cooper wake up? Right now Lucas' normal is twice.
Always enjoy Cooper updates!
