Trying to keep breastfeeding...any suggestions
336lbs 6/19/06 - 198 lbs - 6/19/10 138 lbs gone forever!!!
We have our miracle: Jakob Makhi born 4-15-10; 4 lbs. 10 oz. 22" long.
I think Nutrimagen and Alimentum are both made with hydrolized proteins, like partially broken down. My friends said they didn't smell great but their babies tolerated those formulas better than soy.
Oh yeah, and kellymom.com has pretty good advice on getting milk supply up.

goto a health food store and ask for mama's milk tea. It will increase your milk supply. Also you might wanna try this website if your not already on it, its for anyone really.

How much Fenugreek to take...
Fenugreek. 4 pills 3 times a day for a few days and your supply will go about about 200%. It's all natural and you can find it in the vitamin aisle. It's cheap too!
I strongly recommend Mother's Milk Plus which is a supplement you can find that includes fenugreek, blessed thistle, nettle and fennel seed and is made by a company called Motherlove which can be found at a store near you...check out their website at...http://www.motherlove.com/.
I too struggled with breastfeeding and supply issues but I never gave up. I refused to supplement with formula because I was told over and over again that if I did, I could kiss breastfeeding goodbye. I pumped every 2-3 hours and would give my daughter whatever I made.
I was told by several people, including lactation consultants, about fenugreek so I went to the store and bought the cheapest bottle I could find. It helped a little but then I discovered the gold standard of fenugreek supplements...Mother's Milk Plus and even though they are more expensive (I think about $28 or so for a bottle of gelcaps)...it really did the trick! I was able to double my supply. My local hospital sold them but you can also order them online or find a local store on the website I posted above.
I am so grateful I stuck with it and make it 10 months until my daughter weaned herself. Drink lots of water, get lots of rest (I know, easier said than done) and just don't give up. You are giving your child the best gift you can...breastmilk! I am so proud of you! Breastfeeding was the hardest thing I had ever had to do in my entire life but looking back now, I am so thankful I did because my 2 1/2 year old daughter has never once been sick and she is so extremely bright compared to several other children her age I know that were formula fed - they are sick all the time and have not developed like she has.
All the best to you and your baby!
