According to my OB, tylenol is the only safe pain reliever to use while pregnant and you should only use the regular strength variety.

can you take tylenol with RNY?

Yes I can take tylenol with RNY.

My cousin just had twins and told me I could not use tylenol while pregnant and that her Dr. only allowed her to take Advil and Motrin (Neither are RNY safe), so that is why I got confused.

Thank You!

Interesting..... I never heard of a doctor saying no to tylenol and yes to ibuprofen.  Its always been my understanding the only safe thing to take for pain during pregnancy is Tylenol.  Ibuprofen increases risk of miscarraige (early pregnancy) and bleeding for baby. As far as RNY, they really do not advise using ibuprofen or any other meds  like this.  It can cause ulcers and bleeding in pouch.  Occasional use is ok.  I wonder if occasional use is ok the farther you are in pregnancy?

Personally, I would stick with tylenol.  OR call your ob/gyn and ask a nurse.  Even if you haven't been seen yet, they could answer that basic question.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!

I found this:

Q: I’m pregnant. Which painkillers can I safely take for headaches?

A: The safest over-the-counter pain medication that you can use in pregnancy is acetaminophen, usually sold under the brand name Tylenol. According to the Organization of Teratology Information Services and a scan of the medical literature, Tylenol at recommended doses has been shown to cause no risk for miscarriage, birth defects or subsequent lowered I.Q. levels in children.

The next drug of choice for headache and pain control for most pregnant women is ibuprofen, also called Motrin, Advil or Nuprin. Most studies suggest this too is safe to take in early pregnancy.

However (there are so many “howevers" in medicine), two studies did show that ibuprofen could increase a woman’s risk of miscarriage, perhaps by interfering with early implantation of the fetus. So, if you’re trying to get pregnant, some very conservative doctors (not politically, but the medically be-very-careful docs who advise you to live in a virtual cocoon while trying to conceive) might also tell you to consider avoiding ibuprofen. (Don’t worry too much, though: If you’re already pregnant and things are progressing along normally, you don’t need to fret about past ibuprofen use.)

My doctor wouldn't allow any meds during the first 12 weeks unless she approved them herself. Then, she allowed Tylenol two 250mg tablets within a 24 hour period. Now, I know my doctor is picky so I just dealt with it most of the time.

WOW.... I have exceeded that amount!  I have taken extra strength tylenol, like at week 4-5.  Cramping pain,  Haven't had to take any in a week.  I will find out tomorrow what my OB doctor's opinion and reccomendations are.
