Ok. Ive seen some of the posts, but never read them, because I didnt think I would be positive since none of my othere pregnancies have been. But in a phone call with the dr today (I was asking about the pain in my thigh/numbness) as he was getting off the phone he just announces that my test was positive as he hangs up. He didnt explain things to me or anything. I have an appointment Monday, and I know he was swamped as the midwwife is on vacation but STILL. I dont really know much about this, so any ifo would be great ladies! Thanks!

I had a UTI early in the this pregnancy and they ran a strep B on me too. And it was positive. I was neg with my son. But with this one I have it. It can be different for every pregnancy. It's a non harmful bacteria that is found in I believe something like 40% of all women. It can be harmful for a newborn. So while you are in labor they will hook to up to antibiotics as a safety procaution. Hope this helps!

How in the world do we get this? So strange how you can be negitive with one pregnancy and positive the next. Thanks for the info. I googled it a little after I posted too and they all say that basically they just give you antibiotics during labor. I wish the dr would have explained things anyway! :/

it just happens.. its not an std or anything... if you get pregnant agian.. you may or may not have it as well... its not harmful to you but can be to baby if she contracts it during labor

As far as I know, Strep B colonization just means you don't want to hang out with your water broken for too long without going to the hospital and getting antibiotics.  Try not to stress - the OB should have explained it better, darnit!

I was positive with both my pregnancies, and I am pretty sure I probably will be this time too. I had the test done yesterday. Like Jackie said they hooked me up with antibiodics through and IV when I went into labor - both of my girls are fine :)

Hi, I was positive also.  I asked how you get it, he said it was a bacteria in your intestines and will not hurt the baby so long as you get penicillin during labor.  They still gave me all three doses even when they knew she was a c-section, just to be sure!
