Introduction and VBAC question
Hello Everyone!
My name is Starr. I had the DS done in April of '09 and have lost around 130 lbs since then. I found out I was pregnant this past April, due October 12Th. A baby girl!
I had a Mirena IUD in at the time of conception, that had migrated outside of my uterus and into my pelvis. So to say that this pregnancy was a shock would be an understatement. However, we had planned to start trying for a second child at the end of this year, so we couldn't be happier to have her coming.
Has anyone else done a VBAC? My first son was a c-section baby, and I had a truly awful experience with that. I was 2 weeks overdue with my son, so they induced my labor. The doctor gave me a epidural (I felt like I didn't really have a choice, I was young, 19, and didn't know to speak up.) which didn't take. So they gave me a spinal block instead, which left me paralyzed from the neck down for almost 24 hours. Yes, I was WAY over-medicated, as another anesthesiologist later told me. I actually don't remember giving birth to my son, at all. It was and still is heartbreaking to me.
My current OB has said that she would encourage me to try VBAC, much to my delight! If I can do it, I would love to have a drug-free birth. I want to feel all the pain of labor and delivery, as odd as that may sound to some.
If you've done a VBAC, please share your story with me! I'd love to hear it!

Grats!
I also found out I was pregnant with a suprise #3 with my Mirena still in place ( it's since been safely removed to prevent complications with this pregnancy). I'm only 8 months out from VSG, so this was a HUGE surprise.
I'm also planning for a VBAC with this baby, my first pregnancy was twins deleivered by c-section.
Goodluck!

You know, since becoming pregnant with an IUD in, I'm realizing it's much more common than I thought it was!My twins were concieved while on the pill, so apparently birth control and I don't get along. Getting DH cut after this one.... and maybe my tubes too, for good measure!
I was 7mo out from my VSG when I got pregnant.
My first was a c/s for breech presentation. I have successfully gone on to have 6 VBAC's; 5 of which were homebirths.
We're planning on birthing this baby, baby #8, at home as well, obviously VBAC. LOL
You can do it as long as you truly find a very supportive doctor. Some may say they'll encourage you to VABC and then start changing their tune closer to delivery, so watch out for signs of unsupportiveness.
Good Luck!

Wow, 6 VBACs! You're a champ!
One of the OB/GYN's in the practice I go to thought a planned c-section was the way to go. When I saw his partner, she flat-out told me she disagreed with him and thought that I should try VBAC. She was actually very encouraging of it.

I am pregnant with my second as well and planning a VBAC. I shopped around and found a practice of midwives with only a 12% c-section rate (very low for the US.) The OBs who back them up also have a decent c-sec rate (20%) and are known to support VBAC. I figure I'll have a decent chance with this practice.
I think it's good to ask your OB about what happens if you go overdue again. Some OBs will not induce VBACs at all, some will give a little Pitocin or use a Foley cath to dilate the cervix. Some OBs are pro-VBAC but change their tune at 40 weeks if you haven't gone into labor. My midwives had me do a 24-hour urine collection for a baseline because I had high BP in my first pregnancy (pre-DS.) They'll have me do another if my BP goes up at the end of pregnancy, and if my kidney function is OK and the BP is not too high, I will prob be able to wait for natural labor.
I had a very rough c-section too, so I'll be thrilled if I can VBAC. If I have another c-section, I will try not to be too upset, because of course the baby is the important part of the equation, but I'm hoping a VBAC is in the cards for me.
